PDD-NOS dx'd: looking for solutions.

Posted by sgoose on January 12, 2005, at 14:01:32

I was recently dx'd Pervasive Developmental Disorder - Not Otherwise Specified. Now I list my dx's leading up to this, all taking place within 7 years of medications and therapy and 5 different psychiatrists.

GAD, Panic Disorder, Agoraphobia, Depression(treatment resistant), ADHD. Those are only what were told to me, I don't have notes taken by any doctors.

So back to the current day. When the dx of PDD-NOS was recently made, the pdoc added Risperdal .5mg twice a day 'as needed for agitation' to my combo of 30mg's Dexedrine, 2mg Klonopin.

I have an appt. with the pdoc on Friday and need to make the most of it. For those in the know: what meds are likely to help the symptoms of PDD-NOS? So far, after a month on the Risperdal, I've noticed not a whole lot but some decrease of agitation and slightly increased patience with people. I still have the TRD depression and am not feeling pleasure. I'm not afraid to go to extremes... Just as a note, I have tried enough SSRI's to know they don't help me and also TCA's. They only seem to agitate.

Thx in advance!

Which symptoms of PDD-NOS do you have? I know you don't have the communication deficits, but that's it.

In any case, here's an article containing a list of drugs that have been used for that:

http://www.emedicine.com/med/topic3202.htm

It's more than halfway down the page. Hitting Ctrl+F, typing "Risperdal" in the text box and then scrolling up to the top of the drug table is a real time saver.

P.S.: I have never heard of this being diagnosed in adults before.

thx for the reply. I'm going into my appt. today. i'm really looking to treat the part of me that tries to run away from responsibilities, or - the feeling of being 'trapped' by starting a semester at school. in regards to my communications skills- i have to force myself to write each time i do post and try as hard as possible not to go backwards and edit the post. it's a parallel to when i'm out in public and i mean to say thanks to someone for the holding the door open but when i say 'thanks' the word comes out as one big mumble, at least that's what i hear and then of course i feel sorta embarassed towards myself and all that...
