other than wellbutrin the only other med i've been on that made me mean was lamictal...and then only at a high dose (for me) like 300-350mg. Now i'm down to 100-150mg and not snapping, etc. although i attempted 200 recently and did take a whack at my husband verbally.

Absolutely! A few of the meds I have been on for depression have made me very irritable, which makes me mean. Most notable of the group was Paxil, which I had to stop taking within a few weeks 'cause it was making me such an a-hole.

Elavil did it for me. I'd as soon slap someone silly than smile while taking it --- very short time period because the negative effects were so immediate.

sure...Parnate, at times, makes me terribly irritable...I think meds that cause a general increase in norepinephrine have the potential to cause irritability/short temper, anger, etc. ...

Inderal, which blocks the effects of norepinephrine is used for cases of "rage"

Well, at least I am not the only one.... I am taking 250 mg of lamictal. But without it, I cry all the time etc...so it helps my mood in that respect but makes me a bitch in the other.... I guess i just need to tell my pdoc about it and see if there is something i can add or change. At one point over the summer, I was rage filled. I almost told my mom i never wanted to see her again. And i told my pdoc that and she just gave me an upped dose of lamictal...go figure...
Thanks

now i am wondering if its the klonopin. I know i am much more less social anxious with it, maybe that is why i am "bitchy",,,perhaps its not the lamicatl at all.............

Hello!

'Behavioral side effects associated with clonazepam (Klonopin) may include agitation, aggression, hyperactivity, irritability, property destruction, and temper tantrums.'

And although you're not 'intellectually challenged'........

Aggressive behaviour in intellectually challenged patients with epilepsy treated with lamotrigine (Lamictal).

Beran RG, Gibson RJ.

Epilepsy Research & Services, Chatswood, NSW, Australia.

PURPOSE: Lamotrigine (LTG) is a valuable addition to the medical management of epilepsy with wide spectrum of efficacy and good outcomes for quality of life. We report the emergence of a syndrome of aggressive behavior provoked by LTG in patients with epilepsy and intellectual challenge. METHODS: On recognition of a tendency to aggression in intellectually challenged patients whose epilepsy was treated with LTG, a survey was conducted of those from centers specializing in management of patients with intellectual disability who were treated with LTG. Responses to LTG were sought and patient's behavioral profiles were determined. RESULTS: Nineteen patients were identified (16 men, 3 women, aged 17-54 years). Five patients discontinued LTG due to unprovoked aggressive behavior subsequent to its use; 2 had aggressive behavior sufficient to justify discontinuation of LTG but required reintroduction to control the epilepsy; 1 required reduction in LTG dosage; 1 had aggression that responded to psychiatric intervention; and 1 had aggression unrelated to LTG. Four patients had behavioral problems other than aggression, 4 had no change in behavior, and the behavior of 1 was improved by LTG treatment. CONCLUSIONS: LTG may provoke aggressive behavior and violence in intellectually handicapped patients with epilepsy, which may limit its use in such patients. Acknowledgment of the potential for such disturbance justifies greater surveillance of these patients and early discontinuation of LTG if necessary.

I was taking 60mg of Lexapro along with 200mg Lamictal, and I experienced anger and and times sintense rage, I have been off the Lexapro and on Cymbalta now for about 4 months and I'm still on the Lamictal, so I attribute the anger and rage to the Lexapro.

What dosage of Klonopin does everyone take? Are you taking it for anxiety? I take it for Restless Leg Syndrom, and have for around six years. I never thought it could be making me the "Queen B****". I thought it was suppose to calm you down. -L

In addition to some of the already mentioned psych meds, antihistimines and muscle relaxers make me mean as H--- for days. And percoset does that to my husband. Also, one of the first signs that my meds have pooped out (or in the distant past when I needed to quit trying to be med free :-( , was that my depression and anxiety were returning. It usually would manifest as road rage or a desire to chop up kinked garden hoses with an axe.
