MAOIs and Sweating

Posted by ed_uk on December 27, 2004, at 7:52:47

I am thinking of trying Nardil or Parnate in the future. During the summer I worked in a Pharmacy, my current ADs make me sweat heavily. It was very embarassing to be seen by customers when my shirt was completely soaked and stuck to my body and sweat was dripping out of my hair onto the counter- everyone though I had a fever or something. At the moment I take lofepramine and citalopram. Unfortunately, MAOIs can also cause sweating.

If you have taken Nardil or Parnate.....

Did you suffer from sweating as a side effect?

If you did, how bad was the sweating in comparison with other ADs?

Thank you,
Ed.

I sweat way more than usual since I have been on Nardil. I'm not sure it it's due to the weight gain, the Synthroid I also take, or the Nardil.

I've never had this as a side effect from any other med.

Sorry,
gg

I have been on Parnate since August and have no unusual sweating whatsoever.

Was on a high dose of Parnate for several months and never had a problem with excess sweating.

When I was taking Nardil, I didn't notice any increase in sweating. (As opposed to Zoloft, where I woke up on my second or third day of trying it with rivulets of sweat flowing off my nose!)

Hi everyone!

I'm not sure whether I will be trying an MAOI but if I do I certainly hope that I wouldn't be as sweaty as I am now! Thank you for sharing your experience.

Regards,
Ed.

On Parnate for 2+ years, no sweating.

But, if I drop too low on salts, I do get dizzy :)
