Posted by kka on August 7, 2003, at 18:01:49

Anyone had thinning hair with Wellbutrin, if so did it stop after being on the medication for a while...or did you have to go off the medicince because you were losing hair??? Thanks!

You have to stop the med, in most cases. Some hairloss often occurs in the beginning for many meds, but WB has a strong rep for excessive, persistent hair loss. Does not happen to everyone, but for some, a real problem.

My doc told me this, and anecdotal reports confirm it. It happened to me, so I had to stop. And I was on a low dose. I even noticed the little hairs on my arm fell out, too! *L*

Did you notice hair on brushes and combs and in the shower??? I haven't seen any in those places so it doesn't feel like it is falling out, just thinner. Let me know if you saw the hair in places, or felt it pulling out of you head and if that is the case maybe I am just being paranoid

Came out in my hands when shampooing in the shower. And over time, was clearly thinner.

Mine came out in my hands while shampooing, also. I stopped Wellbutrin because of the hair loss. The hair loss continued for another month, but then stopped.

how about alopecia?

I have been on wellbutrin for 4-5 years and had not had any hair loss from it. However, I recently discovered 3 bald spots on my scalp. I don't think it's from the meds, though. About 10 years ago, I had a bald spot on my scalp. I didn't go see the Dr. then, but went this time because it was 3 spots instead of one. He did blood tests, and found nothing unusual. So, it seems, that I have Alopecia Areatas, or at least that's what the Dr. says.

Anyone else have experience with Alopecia? Typically, I have shedding periods usually in the early spring, and late summer, which I believe is the normal hair cycle anyway. I would hate to think my hair loss is from the wellbutrin, as it is the only thing that keeps the sexual side effects at bay from also taking Zoloft.

Any comments are greatly appreciated!

Jeanine

The bald spots just might be from WB. If you notice more over time, that might be your confirmation.

On the other hand, if you can bear to hang in and wait for for further confirmation, either way, you might find that the problem resolves without giving up the med.

struggling with hair loss

I quit taking Wellbutrin because of hairloss and it took like 7 weeks to stop but in the mean time I switched from antidpressant to antidepressant until I found myself in a very bad state and so my dr put me back on it just to get level. Previously I had taken if for about 6 or 7 months and it was absolutely great for me except for the hairloss. I am really confused and upset about this because I am a 33 year old woman who would still like to think of herself as young and sexy but the going bald thing is kind of putting a damper on that. I am at a loss...hee hee, punny.
