I just noticed that the right half of my face is..

Posted by lostforwards on December 6, 2004, at 12:30:06

...more numb than the other half of my face. My mouth doesn't move as much on that side, my smile is slightly crooked. It's also the side that my eyebrow arches or twitches on. Also when I squint it's the side of my face that creases up the least. is it any coincidence that my left arm is the one that doesn't swing. In fact the left side of my body has most of the problems - weak knee, and stiffer fingers relative to my right hand. All this after the AP. I really hope this is akinesia that I'm having trouble recovering from. It's pretty weird how it affects half of my body/face more than the other.

Hi LF,
Have you seen a doctor about this? I am concerned for you. Are you still on AP's? How long have you had this?

Sincerely,
JACJ

AMAZING I thought I was the only one.. You just described my exact symptoms!! AP= antipsycotic?? I am on abilify right now and it seems that is the culprit.. but I can't find any info on it online..(numbness) I think it's notorious for causing the movment problems though.. I don't think they develop into anything serious though.. only in rare scenarios.. I've had this prob with prozac to and it eventualy subsided..

I think both of you should get off this med ASAP if you are having those symptoms. Is there something else you can try?

I've had it for 2 months. Things were a lot worse before, both of my arms weren't swinging and I'd wake up really stiff in the mornings. They also feel like pulling upward sometimes.

The doctor said to give it time.

Oh yeah, I'm not on the AP right now. I've been off it since Aug. 1st.

I saw a neurologist. He didn't say anything about it other than to give it time. Personally I think I've been really screwed up and that he didn't know what to look for. Even though one of my arms hasn't been swinging for quite some time( that's the way it was when I went to see him )

Most of my problems weren't visible on the AP. The only problems I had were shallow breathing and stiffness. That was how it was leaving the hospital if you can believe it.

After quiting is when my arms stopped swinging and my eyebrow started arching in the morning and twitching sometimes. I also had an insane amount of stiffness in my legs in the mornings and my sleep was terrible.

The numbness of my face started when I was on the antipsychotic ( AP ) many months ago for 2 weeks and stressed. I'm not sure what happened, but that was where it started. I started getting a twitch on the right side of my mouth. The numb feeling went away in a few days. Then about a month later, because i was having trouble sleeping which was related to the meds, I was put back on the meds. I think it's worse than before now cause I feel stiff a lot now and only one of my arms is swinging. My smile is now visibly crooked. It wasn't like that before.

I'm hoping that all of my symptoms have something to do with severe akinesia and not anything else. Though I have had dystonic jerks.
