What are people's experience with Luvox? I don't hear much about it here...

I just tried to start a thread on Luvox, and noone responded. I took it once and responded well to it with no side effects. Then after more AD's in between, and a new Doc could not tolerate anything but low doses of it. I am having no luck with Cymbalta or others and would like to try it again, but Doctor ignores me. I too, would appreciate any others experiences on it. Are you thinking of trying it?

Hi,

For me, Luvox was the best antidepressant in terms of efficacy , but unfortunately I ended up in a delirious state after one week of use. I remember it worked within two or three days. Docs take care not to prescribe Luvox if the patient is sensitive to SSRI related adverse effects. Start on 50 mg and see what happens. I was on Xanax to neutralize the agitative side effects of Luvox, still it caused remarkable agitation. If those side effects were tolerable, Luvox would have been the best antidepressant for me.
PLS

I have taken every SSRI to combat my OCD and Luvox was the ONLY one to address this issue---it also helped really good with my anxiety too. Luvox is an awesome drug. Alot more people should take it.

What are the side effects like, compared to other ssris?
It is the only SSRI I haven't tried. I am ready to throw in the towel on these drugs; but on the other hand my next route is mood stabilizers, and supposedly it is more prudent to combine them with at least a little bit of an AD if depression is the problem. I see my new pdoc tomorrow. Im thinking Lamictal with either: Luvox, clomipramine or nortryptiline. Though I fear weight gain on the latter two. I also am considering Zonegran to offset TCA weight gain.

The first time I was on Luvox I had absolutely none, and went up to 225mgs. Then the pdoc switched me back to Paxil-I don't know why. I couldn't take Paxil any more, so he put me back on Luvox, but only 50mgs. When I asked why he said the higher dose was because I was in the hospital. Not all truth. He started it in the hospital but then increased it after I was discharged. Might I add that the cause of hospitalization was an elevated TSH(hypo throid) which caused increased panic attacks. When He found out the cause he said let's stop your 10mgs of Paxil and exaperiment with Luvox. Anyway I was again taken off it and put on Celexa because he wanted me in a trial test I didn't want a part of, so he said I was catatonic which was not true. That was the end of any AD ever working for me in the past 8 years.
