I have taken paxil for about 1 1/2 yrs. about 1 year ago. I gain 20 lbs. and decided to go off. Getting off of it was hell but I did it. However, I have come to the realization that I do need to be on something for gad. I am wondering if I had the weight gain with paxil will I have it with lexapro and have hell getting off lexapro also. Has anyone used both of these drugs?

Good post, and if someone knows, could they ad information about the effective of these drugs, one versus the other, in addressing GAD.

I have taken Paxil in the past (2 years ago). Went off, the GAD acted up bigtime from time to time in those two years. I've now been on Lexapro for 2 months.
Overall, Lexapro has had less side effects on me. Paxil made me too much of a Zombie, I felt nothing, had no interests...mind you the GAD was under control, but I was emotionless. I did gain weight on Paxil, and I had sexual side effects - Could get it up, but couldnt finish.
With Lexapro I feel more like "myself." I expierence excitement, sometimes get slightly anxious, but it doesnt get out of control like when I am not taking medicine. The only real Side effect I have on Lexapro is again the sexual stuff. My wife doesnt like it, as she feels I am not satisfied by her, but I keep telling her it is the medicine. Hopefully that side effect goes away, but from what I hear, Im not holding my breath.
Good luck.
