Remeron

Posted by NeilKramer on November 30, 2004, at 23:44:55

I'm trying Lexapro right now to not much success. I was wondering about what other people's experiences have been with Remeron, specifically in regard to anxiety and length of time it takes for it to have an effect.

I've been on remeron for over a year now. It took exactly 2 weeks to kick in (I was counting the days!) It has been a life saver as far as anxiety goes. Haven't had a panic attack at all on it.
best wishes,

For 20 years, I've been taking MAOI Parnate. Back in 2002, I made the decision to give Remeron a try, mostly for practical reasons. I thought at first I'd see how good it would be in PREVENTING a relapse in depression. Side effects included deep sleep, intense dreams, grogginess in the morning, and dramatic weight gain. I had a seriousfamily incident in which Remeron appeared to be keeping my anxiety and depression in check. But a couple of months later, bad stuff starting happening in my personal life and I found myself having to increase the dose several times. Then this med seemed to quit altogether and I was left in a pit of major depression. No more Remeron, thank you.

I have been on 15mg. remeron for 2 1/2 yrs. & lexapro 7.5mg since Jan.I also take 1mg. klonopin daily & find this combo works for me. I have GAD. The remeron didn't seem to help with depression so Dr. put me on lex. It was rough for the first 5 weeks but was worth it.

It took 6 weeks for Remeron (45mg) to kick in. I'm not exactly sure how to explain what it does....other than it has relieved me of my suicidal mindset. I don't think it would even be possible for me to attempt again. Whatever that energy is that drives the suicidal "entity" within....Remeron seems to have pushed it aside and it is no longer dominant.

Depression? Anxiety? I'm not sure if Remeron is helping in these areas or not. I guess. I don't know. My main problem was that I was extremely suicidal (many people on this board remember what happened!)....and Remeron has somehow saved my life. I have NO intentions of coming off it because I know what would happen.

Good luck. I wish you well.

Sandy
