My Daughter has recently started taking Prozac for depression and anxiety. When the pdoc RX'd it he said it was also good to help stop drinking alchohol. Since she started on it she stopped drinking, started jogging 3 miles, and is able to deal with whatever problems she has without anxiety. Anyone have any further input? Has this been the experience with any others? Thanks. Phillipa

Prozac does alleviate the depression of most people who take it. So your daughter's response is typical in that regard.
I don't know what the statistics are about antidepressants allowing people to stop drinking. But it makes sense that if you already feel better, you don't need alcohol to make you feel better.

How wonderful for your daughter to have found a medication that works so well for her. My daughter is taking Welbutrin for depression, and I really think it's helping with that, but it's not doing anything for her anxiety. I am hoping her doc. puts her on something else at her next appt. Prozac may be something he suggests. -L

Thanks for your response. To have her respond in 3 days makes me wonder if just the stopping drinking cleared her head so she could see her life more clearly. Plus the jogging for natural endorphins would definitely help. Phillipa
