Serotonin excess

Posted by dawnfawn on November 26, 2004, at 10:01:16

Last June I had a serotonin blood test. It showed too much serotonin. I am not on any antidepressants. I have a moderate or mild depressive disorder I am really anxious more than depressed. Does anyone know what this means?

Serotonin can cause anxiety too. This is why some medications like buspar help certain anxieties, cause it lowers overall serotogenic tone.

You might do well on a medication like zyprexa, or remeron, that blocks certain serotonin receptors.

As well, a serotonin blood test does not reflect high brain serotonin at all. Serotonin can be high in the periphery and low in the central nervous system.
