Twitching on cymbalta?

Posted by Wildflower on November 25, 2004, at 19:58:36

Has anyone experienced this? Every once in a while one of the muscles in my body twitches. It's been everything from arms to legs to abs. I'm on other meds too but the cymbalta is the newest of the coctail.

Even though I have cut back from 60mgs to 30mgs, I now have twitching in my eye. Didn't attribute this to Cymbalta, thought it was nerves. Phillipa

Yes, I experienced twitching when I was on Lexapro and also now on Cymbalta.

I did initially. More than twitching really - one time my right arm just flew up and over and behind my head, completely of its own volition! But mostly the jerking was much more subdued. It stopped about five weeks in. I'm now in my eighth week, and it hasn't happened again.

The term for this is dyskinesia, by the way. With some antipsychotics it's a very serious problem that may never go away, even if you stop the medication. But with antipsychotics it typically doesn't show up till you've been on the drug for a long time. In these cases it's referred to as tardive (that is, delayed) dyskinesia. I'm trusting that it was only an iniatory side effect with Cymbalta, a sign of my body adjusting, rather than something that reappear later - and remain.

due to the neurogenic potency of cymbalta one theory is that it exaserbates restless legs symptoms such as twitching.

But, we really don't know about the long term effects of Cymbalta yet. It's too new.

I haven't heard enough good stuff about Cymbalta to justify the risk - at least in my mind. Tardive dyskinesia is pretty scarry.

Yes, it is, but as I said the problem dissipated and has not returned. I'm willing to take the risk because Cymbalta does help. It's definitely not ideal but good enough for the time being.

I understand the twitching to be called myoclonus. I experience this twitching as well as, muscle stiffness, tension and pain.

I experienced it on cymbalta and it did not go away. I also experience it on all the SSRIs.
