Imovane

Posted by uther on November 24, 2004, at 14:38:02

Can someone tell me as little about Imovane? I understand its a sleeping pill unrelated to benzos.

Does it relax you and give you a feeling of wellbeing like ativan or the other benzos enableing you to clear your mind and fall asleep.

Or does it make you drowsy knock you out like trazodone.

Can you take it during the day? Does it have any mood enhancing properties or anti axiety effects?

Thanks for any information,
Adam

Hi, sorry i dont have any experience with this drug BUT heres what i found..

come to think of it this was the drug my doctor offered me todaybut called it zopiclone.. anyways here is..

Zopiclone (Trade name: Imovane) is a novel hypnotic agent used in the treatment of insomnia. It was first introduced in 1988 by Rhône-Poulenc S.A., now part of Sanofi-Aventis.

While it acts on the BZ2 receptor and is a short-acting hypnotic agent, it is not a benzodiazepine, but a cyclopyrrolone derivative, belonging to a novel chemical class which is structurally unrelated to existing hypnotics.

basiclly it will knock you out, so take it when u r ready for bed...

Imovane/Zopiclone simply is sedating and used as a sleeping aid. It acts quickly, making you drowsy, dizzy and a bit uncoordinated, so should only be taken before bed. (Depends on dosage obviously).
It's fairly short-acting, so you don't have a drugged "hang-over" feeling when you awake.
I used it several years ago for insomnia. I have an anxiety disorder, and I didn't find it had any anxiolytic effects the next day. It's not so much "calming", more a "knock-out" drug, like crazychickuk says!
I take the benzo, Klonopin, and it has a completely different effect. Calming and focussing, reducing physical and mental anxiety symptoms.

I used to take two per night for over four years. It doesn't make you feel good or anything like that - just knocks you out as people have said. Took it once or twice during the day to see what would happen, but just felt all tired and grotty.

I started on one tablet, but after a while you build up a tolerance. After a while on two tablets I found that my sleeping was just as bad as before I started to take the da*n drug. I couldn't get to sleep till bout 3am basically. But if I didn't take the tablets then I wouldn't sleep all night, in fact, I couldn't sleep for a couple of days. Started feeling all funny and anxious for lack of sleep. Started hallucinating and going a bit psychotic. Coming off those pills was one of the hardest addictions I have ever had to break.

What I found them most useful for was to take about 10 of them (once I had built up a tolerance) to get me through if I was determined to top myself. it would knock me out for bout 13 hours and I'd wake up feeling a bit better.

Got into oh so much trouble for that one though, so I wouldn't reccomend it.

Hi,

Zopiclone (Zimovane) is one of the most popular sleeping drugs in the UK. Nitrazepam and temazepam are also popular. Zolpidem (Ambien/Stilnoct) isn't very popular here.

Imovane for me was a good sleeping pill. It just slowed my mind down and put me to sleep.

It is very sedating and would not be terrably good for a daytime anti-anxiety agent.

It left a terrable taste in my mouth the next day. Absolutely horrable.

There are a couple of different brands... Lets see if I can get them straight... Imovane is the generic, right?

Zopiclone was great - but wasn't fully subsidised and cost a fortune.

Zo-tab wasn't fully subsidised and left a foul taste in my mouth (though I get that anyway cause of all the coke and cigarettes...)

Hi!

Zopiclone is the generic name. Zimovane and Imovane are brand names.
