I am thinking into getting a Light Box as I live in droopy, dark, gloomy Seattle were I work nights and I never see the daylight. I have noticed eventhough I take Effexor I am now slipping into a dark mood yet again.

Disclaimer: this might be totally idiotic, but it's cheaper than the "real" light boxes:
There are a number of full spectrum/daylight lamps sold for quilting or needlework. They're not cheap, but about $150/$200, which is still less. They may be enough to work, or at least give you an idea of whether it's worth investing in a real light box.

I got my lamp from Full Spectrum Solutions, and I think it was only $129. It's also dimmable, so I use it next to bedside. Actually, it looks like the price just went down. It's $99 now.

If you look online, you'll see that there are a lot of them around $200. Also, go to e-bay and search "light therapy boxes". I saw several for under $150 with a "buy now" option. I don't know whether or not that would be more cost effective than hunting down your own materials.
If you go looking for bulbs to try to fashion your own, remember that the total light output is really the only important factor - that and no harmful UV. The commercial boxes seem to mostly be able to put out 10,000 lux at 14".

Northern Light Technologies , a company out of Canada is where I got mine from. My Doctor recomended I get it from there. It's called the "Satelite" It's one of the best out there. Cost is around $200.

An alternative to a full light box is a light visor, which is actually much more convenient. You can move around and do chores or whatever while wearing it. You can even read. Unfortunately I no longer know where to get them.
The trick is to adjust each of the two lights so it shines directly into your cornea. It sounds like it would be unpleasant, but it actually isn't. The light hits at an angle that somehow doesn't create a glare effect.

I might be wrong though about the price,

If you have health insurance, they may cover the cost if you have Dr.'s recommendation.
