does anyone have these side effects

Posted by linkadge on November 20, 2004, at 18:41:02

I have these really irritating side effects.

It is like vertigo or something. It is a whole cluster of symptoms. For starters it feels like a giant magnet is pulling my head this way and that. Secondarily i feel like somebody is pushing me from behind when I walk. The final one I have is the floor feels like it is being tilted back and forth while I try to walk.

What's going on here.

Thanks

Hi Link,

If I miss my citalopram for a few days I feel like the floor is moving.

You ARE describing vertigo, and vertigo is a side effect of many psych meds. Of course, it's possible you have an inner ear infection or water in the inner ear, both of which can also cause these symptoms. It isn't necessarily drug related. If it persists, you might want to check with a regular MD to be sure.

I had nasty vertigo and zaps from withdrawal from Zoloft. I doubt it is anything 'serious' (as in life threatening) but don't hesitate to call or see a doc if it has become really bothersome. I know you recently went to the hospital -- any drugs you are withrawing from at the moment? If not it may be a side effect of either or both the celexa/lithium. Lithium can cause drowsiness and clumsiness (according to the ancient PI sheet) -- so it me be the culprit; in which case you may eventually adjust. Again you should seek expert advice if it has become a real bother.

Antivert (Meclezine HCL) seems to help a lot with the bizarre sensations. This is also available OTC -- you'll find it in the
antiemetic(stomach flu) section at any pharmacy in the US. Might try taking it for a few days and then stopping and seeing if the symptoms come back. Fluid in the ears or as side effect of the medication I suspect it would provide some relief for you.

Of course, the necessary *disclaimer* -- I am not a medical expert and have no training in this field, I have merely been in similar situations before. Best of luck Link, hang in there!

** As a side note - I really have appreciated your diligence in keeping us updated on your situation . Though I have not, and never will, personally known you; I have frequently found myself wondering how you are doing. So it is good to see that at the moment your biggest problem is vertigo. You have my prayers -- Matt.

Could it be low blood pressure? (nm)

I think you need to go back on zyprexa.
