Seroquel and booze

Posted by chellyb on November 17, 2004, at 16:31:49

Ive recently been diagnosed as bipolar and have been put on 300 mg seroquel at bedtime. Im wondering what the effects of tying one on with this stuff would be. I haven't drank since I've been on it.

By the way, Ive never felt better in my life on this med.

I also take Seroquel at night (25-50mg) and have had an OK experience having some wine or beer in the evening. I try to limit myself to 3 or 4 drinks.

My experience is with this combo is that you just get sleepy much faster.

I'm not sure how to extrapolate this to your dosage, but I'd be wary of drinking while on that much Seroquel. Perhaps you could try to have 1 or 2 drinks and then stop for the night and see what happens. If all is well, have 3 or 4 on another night. I don't think I personally would "tie one on" while on this med, but feel that extreme moderation might be ok.

Hope this helps.

I'm currently taking seroquel to help me fall asleep at night. Ever since I started it, drinking was a terrible thing...especially red wine. It made me forget parts of the evening several times. I'm also on other meds but we think it's the seroquel that's doing it.

Thanks for your replies. I think I'll just plain stay away from the alcohol then.

Im actually sleeping through the night since I've been on it, things I use to just totally obsess over aren't bothering me so much anymore. It's hard for me, who's only ever been on hbp meds to believe that these pills can help me feel so much better!
