i read above posts on zyprexa. that helps. is anyone on it for mood swings? for example, i get in bad moods alot, does it help with that. lexapro did not really help with that, it helped more with ocd. does your mood improve quick on zyprexa. are you in happy moods?how long does it take?

Zyprexa was my "miracle drug" for anxiety until I gained about 20 lb. I'm trying to wean myself off it now.

I used to take Klonopin for anxiety, but Zyprexa was better. It took the edge off, but I found it too sedating to take more than a minimal dose. Unlike some people, I never developed a tolerance.

Im currently on zyprexa (10mg) and klonopin (4mg). Zyprexa helps a lot with mood, both ups and downs, thinking clearly, and some with anxiety, but I still neeed the klonopin it seems. I think zyprexa helps more with agitation really than anxiety, which might be why I still need the klonopin. When I have been on zyprexa alone, it initially did help with anxiety, but that effect wore off after a few months (although the beneficial effects on mood and thought remained). I think though that i was unusual in that the anxiety effect wore off. Overall I find it a good combo (I also take provigil).

Sadness could be a side effect, or it could be depression. Anxiety and depression often go together.

I had sedation from Zyprexa for about 3 days. Then it went away. I didn't gain any weight at first, but now I feel like a whale, after about four months. The doctors say weight gain is independent of dosage. I could probably deal with the excess weight if my ADs actually worked, or if I could tolerate exercise.

Not everyone gains weight, but many people do.

As far as anxiety--Zyprexa is near-miraculous. I'd rate it a 9 or 10. It gives me more relief than Klonopin. My excessive anxiety started during a particularly bad period (my father was terminally ill). I'm hoping I'm recovered enough to wean myself off the Z.

Sadness could be a side effect from either med, more likely the klonopin would be my guess, but most likely the zyprexa just hasnt had enough time to start getting rid of that. As for side effects Ive experienced (from zyprexa; I didnt really have any other than initial sleepiness from klonopin) I have experienced increased appetite/weight gain from it before, although not this time around on it. If you find zyprexa really helps you though, you can ask your doc about medicines that can help prevent the weight gain if diet/exercise dont cut it. There are various ones that have been proven successful. And of course not everyone gains on it, and the gain does tend to level off after awhile. I never really experienced daytime sedation, but it does help me sleep at night. And this time around (Ive been on and off it a lot) Im having some stomach issues (lets just say I spend a lot of time in the bathroom), but its not too bad and it never happened to me the other times Ive been on it. I would rate zyprexa's effectiveness (for mood, thinking, and anxiety/agitation) up around 10; it is definitely the best medicine I have tried. The one caveat is that for me the anxiolytic effect wanes a bit after a while, but thats pretty rare I bet, and in any case you have klonopin for that. Oh and one other side effect is that on higher doses I feel a little flat, but on 10mg and below I dont feel that way. But on the flip-side, I am more engaged in life because of it, which is kind of 'ant-flat'. Hard to describe. Well I think Ive babbled on enough for now.

I've been taking zyprexa for the last 7 years. It is the best med I have ever taken. I honestly could not live with out it.

I take 400 mg bupropion sr which helps with weight and hunger. The other thing is eat early, not late. Take the zyprexa 1.5 hours befor sleep. Pre occupie your self, always go hungry, weigh your self every morning, never eat enough. When you do slip, punish your self with half a meal next time. Eat lots of vegis, some fruit, lean meats, less carbs. It works. I've been taking zyprexa for 7 years and have only gone up 20 lbs. Was 155 now 175-180. I was a little under weight then and only 21. Exercise helps just don't go carb wild after a workout.

I just wanted to add a few things to what sebastian said. I too found wellbutrin to help. Right now I am on provigil which helps me, and doesnt produce anxiety. Other meds that have been supposedly successful in things Ive read include amantadine, which I think some people on here have had good luck with, metformin, axid (which recently someone mentioned on here), and I would think topomax would help too. Ive also read somewhere, and tried with some success, is drinking a big glass of water when the hunger strikes. That can make you feel full. Eating slowly can help too. Thats all I can think of right now. Hope it helps.
