Hi there

Perhaps you should consider going back on the meds. I am sure there is one (or a combination) that will help you. You really seem to need a bit of external help. Your posts have indicated your anxiety and fear for about a month (as long as what you have been off the meds). Go through all the options and effects with the doc. He is there to help you, try not to resist him. There is something out there to help you.

Wishing you strength
Sabrina

I understand. Taking meds and the side effects, good or bad, that come with it, is a very scary experience. I didn't want to go back on meds with my recent relapse but the self-help route didn't work. The chemical imbalance was already there. My doctor made me feel better about it by saying that I have been to hell and back and now I am just using a bit of fuel to help me keep running. Just like a car needs fuel to drive. I felt less guilty after that. You are too weak mentally because of the chemical imbalance and only meds can aid that. I know it's frightening. Tell your doc your fears. And as far as all the horror stories, I read them all too and thought, "how can I possibly go on this drug", but if it weren't for efexor, I would be divorced, or dead right now. It has given me a lease on life again. I guess I am luckier than most. I do have side effects, but I seem to be able to live with them. My husband calls the Efexor my "mind-altering drug of a good kind". And he too, did not want me to take it.

cc - please talk with your doc. Cry, lament, do whatever you have to so that you will be heard. You can and will be helped. And in the mean time - you of course know where to go to babble and vent.

Like I said earlier, I can totally empathize. I have had the same feelings you have had. I have written on this page and many others that I feared losing my mind and I never did. I have read countless posts like yours where people fear they are losing their minds and they don't. After having been on meds your brain is just trying to figure out how to operate on its own. Keep reminding yourself of that. What you are experiencing is normal, as weird as that might seem. Maybe you need a short term benzo just to quell the anxiety which sounds like it is running roughshod right now. Listen to what the doctor says and remember that your brain will adjust. THey always do. If you have to take another med, fine. In the meantime, remember that altough it is hard to feel it in times of desperation and fear, God is always with us. He may not shoot a lightning bolt down and cure all your ills, but He will give you the strength to make it through this if you reach out to Him. All the best

How about going to a family practice or general practice doctor for your depression? They will get you an appointment sooner than the pdocs.

Hi everyone thanks all for the replys... i just come back from my gp.s and he has given my effexor to start on 37.5 mg 1 a day see how i get on the gradually raise the dose if needed..

He only gave them to me cus i asked... as these were the first meds i was ever given for mild depression 3-4 yrs ago and it brought me out of it.. made me a little manic but i was so happy.. untill i took about 4-5x my dose to be high then i stopped right away as thats when my anxiety and panick attacks started..

ssris and tcas dont help me, zispin changed from tab to soltab, so i got effexor again.. i am keeping my fingers crossed BUT i am kind of weary very weary of it making me worse.. ?

My mind is controlling me at the moment, i have valium here but for some reason it isnt calming me and i feel more panicky.. my gp s aid it can do that, and to stop taking it...

I have to call my cpn now to arrange to see her for therapy as soon as poss... I am still so weary of starting effexor.. i dont wanna end up losing my mind.. BUT i need help i know i have a chemical imbalance, i can not be around peopl, severe social phobia, depression panick attacks and i just can not calm down..

Ok so what do you guys think?

Hang in there with the Effexor. Give it at least 6 to 8 weeks. It's also a low dosage. You already said that it made you happy once before. Chances are it will again but starting and stopping will not help you at all.

Good luck

Don't be afraid of Effexor. It's an extremely popular drug since it's very safe and very effective.

If your detached feeling continues even with Effexor, maybe you would want to ask your doc about adding an ADD drug.

Hi...you may really start really feeling your Vallium kick in when you get some of the Effexor in you. I have found when I am off of an antidepressant, benzos don't really seem to do much, but on them they seem to work great. Don't ask me why..:)...just seems that way. Good luck, and I think you will do very well.

All the best,
Jay

Well, Effexor did a wonder for my depression which was really spinning out of control.

You might very well see improvements earlier than 6 to 8 weeks ... not really less depresse but it might give you more energy. I remember it made me want to go outside and run around the block or something.

Its a pain to get off of it but sometimes when the depression is really bad, it can be a great medication.

Hang in there
