Stim-induced need for Lamictal?

Posted by quarterwit on September 8, 2004, at 13:41:06

Has anybody heard of high-dose Dexedrine creating "rapid cycling?" Before current MAOI, my cocktail included Dexedrine, up to 50> mg daily. Once beyond 50 (never more than 60) my judgement was severely impaired and DEX side effects created problems. So I tried to keep it at 50 or less. But even at these doses, my mind would become racy, busy and noisy. Thoughts a mile-a-minute. PDOC said rapid cycler, and put me on Lamictal. It seemed to help some but now that I'm not on DEX anymore, I suspect the Lamictal is causing my current fatigue problems -- either this or Dexedrine withdrawl? Any experiences? Maybe I should reduce/eliminate Lamictal? (I wouldn't without a doc's advice) Thanks

How much Lamictal are you taking? What did your doctor say your target dose will be?

target dose was supposed to be 200, but I stopped at 150 because of what I thought was Lamictal-related sedation; I'm still on 150; thanks

I was at 150mg for two weeks and had the same problem and mydoc dropped me back down to 100mg Lamictal. Now that I'm at 100mg, I don't feel any response from the med as far as antidepressant qualities as I did at 150mg, which was slight.

So, it's either put up with lethargy and some short term memory problems at 150mg and above, or try 100mg with a low dose of Prozac, which is what I'm trying.
