verify Dx??

Posted by becksA on September 7, 2004, at 14:09:47

I just wanted to see if anybody had the same symptoms, or could provide a quick possible dx to verify what i know so far...the main thing i would like to know about is my anxiety...
the main problematic symptom, when it gets bad, is in close up, interpersonal interaction, is simply the inability to smile...when it's business like, or say, at the pdoc appointment, i'm mainly fine...unless she cracks a joke. for some reason whenever the conversation is light-hearted, and people begin to laugh, i feel almost as if my facial muscles begin to tighten up and i can't even fake a smile. Any ideas? Right now my pdoc has given me a dx of social anxiety, with possibility of some type of BP. I also have depression and ADHD. Im currently on:

30mg dexadrine spansules 2x daily
1mg Risperdal 1x daily
600mg Neurontin 3x daily

thanks

Yes, I used to have the same problem. Inability to smile at people, esp. women, when they smiled at me. I'd just turn away instead, as if blinded by a flashbulb.

And it wasn't fear of rejection, either. Or of girls. It was just a stupid, knee-jerk reaction. A phobia. But socially, it was crippling.

The best drug for this I found is a minor tranquilizer. It start with a K. And it really works! It's been around a long time, but only recently have they found it to be great for this kind of stupid phobia. (Far more so than the new, expensive, heavily advertised drugs for social anxiety).
To find out more, go where I did:

socialfear.com

And read all about it.

Best of luck,
Phil

I thought the "Treatment Algorithm for Social Anxiety" was very interesting. I have GAD and OCD and my main med is Effexor - just what it recommended. Thanks for posting this.
