You can send a bablemail to someone else who is babblemail "active". You can check your own setting by going in to update your registration. There is a box to check whether you want to have access to babblemail or not. You also need to know if the other person is active. I find that if their posting name is a link in blue, they seem to be active. You can also check on the page I linked to. (Don't know why that doesn't come out as a clickable link, but you can cut and paste).
Larry Hoover also posted on this on Admin at one time. But I don't have that post bookmarked. sorry.

go here to update your registration first:
https://dr-bob.securesites.com/cgi-bin/pb/signup.pl.
1. enter your info and click the "update registration button"
2. turn your babblemail option *on* (you have to do this in order to be able to rceive babblemail)
3. you are now set to receive babblemail.let me know when you've done this, and we'll go from there...

good. ok, now, go to:
http://www.dr-bob.org/cgi-bin/pb/babblemail.pl
It's pretty self-explanatory from there. just fill in the info requested (including your message), and click the "send babblemail" button. That's it!
(note: optional: if the person your sending to does not have their babblemail option turned on at registration, the babblemail won't go through. *if you want to check ahead of time before going to the trouble of typing a message*, then you can fill everything in before you type your message, and then click the "check babble settings" button to find out if they can receive babblemail. but you don't have to do this because a message will also let you know when you try and send your babblemail if it has gone through.)

in case anyone else is reading this and needs help getting started on babblemail (i already told ccuk this just in case), i just wanted to make sure you know that when you reply to a babblemail, you can't just hit the reply button like you do when replying to your normal emails. you need to go back to the babblemail web page and send your reply from there.:)

Good point alesta. And in my case, there has always been a link within the babblemail I got, so I can just click that link to get back to the babblemail page.
