My Pdoc won't fill my RX bc I gaven't seen him in

Posted by owenus32 on August 30, 2004, at 16:29:51

But he never complained and he never threatened to do this. I am out of Lexapro and he said have the pharmacy call him and when I got to pharmacy they said he won't do it untill I see him. I talked to his assistant earlier and she said this wed or sep 20th and I saqid is it ok if I come sep 20th bc I'm so busy at work and she said yes. Anyway, he did say have the cvs call him then he told them no and went home. Why would he do this? Is it a time period law thing or isa he trying to punish me by denying me the medication he prescribed which by the way is very dangerous to stop in one day as he apparently is doing to me. I don't understand it.

My PDOC does this to me too... Even if I so much as call her about changing something, the answer is an automatic "no, come in"

Yup, I'm starting to think that too... I love my PDOC, but she, like everyone else, wants the moola and seeing more patients on a frequent basis is the way they do it. As bad as this sounds, that why I liked it when my GP filled my prescriptions... I could get more refills, and if I had problems in the interim, I could head in to see him.

IMO, his behavior is inexcusable and certainly not in the best interest of his patient, which unfortunately happens to be you. It is not as if you're taking a stimulant or a benzo, but rather, an innocuous SSRI which any GP would probably be willing to give you a prescription for. If he were truly concerned about your welfare, a better solution would have been to call in just a one month's prescription to give you time to go in and see him.

I don't have these kinds of problems with my pdoc, who is generous about writing refills and has never been forceful about having me come back to see him in a certain period of time other than in those instances when I was clearly not doing very well, and he felt a need to keep tabs on my condition. His decisions always seem to be based on what he feels is in my best interest, as does my GP's. These guys aren't fancy private practice doctors but work for a large clinic. If I all of a sudden became a zillionaire, I would still keep seeing both of them.

It sounds like your doctor does not know that your appointment isn't until Sept 20. Call him or his assistant back and let them know that you need a refill to last at least until then.

Health insurance companies in the US often adopt Medicare payment rules. Medicare does not allow billings for phone consultations with docs. Payment is only allowed if the doctor sees the patient in person (although there are certain limited "telemedicine" allowances in rural areas).

Since many pdocs basically make all of their income from visit fees, a lot of them don't like to have too many phone calls since they are non-billable.

General docs can't bill for phone calls either, but at least they still have a lot of traffic coming in during the day since there are many conditions for which a general doc really has to examine the patient. Plus, they can bill for EKG's and other stuff besides visits.

I personally like general docs for psychiatric drugs unless psychotherapy is needed, or if there is an especially complex problem.

Hi:
My pdoc. normally writes down a prescription slip whenever I visit his office. Otherwise, it seems he does NOT rx any of meds. Only office visit to allow his patients to get a rx slip. I normally goes to his office two months' interval and he ALWAYS asks whether or not I need any of meds.

Back last fall of 2003, I saw a slip close to his secretary/office manager saying, ... NO LONGER rx over telephone. However, I was NOT too much concerned, since I get all of my med. slips from him personally. I never received any of my meds. over the telephone and this procedure seems to me 'normal' for all of pdocs. since I had four different pdocs. from one visit to four years'(current pdoc.).

Besides this, on my last visit in his office, a bright slip hanging the wall close to office manaer, saying they(not my pdoc. also other pdocs. in his practice) will charge all paper works, such as SSDI, documents for the court appearance and all other stuff(I can't remember others tho'). Then, if you need med. refill, then your pdoc. applying a routine procedure which other pdocs. exercising.

Having seen this, a bit of 'nuisance/inconvience' getting a rx slip, I, too agree that if your condition is NOT complex form of M.I.,a family/general docotor could be better for your situation, "too busy to go to see your pdoc."
