Need MD/Pdoc in Houston

Posted by JayDee on August 30, 2004, at 16:21:27

Hello,

Well the time has come and I need to see a Pdoc...
I suffer from severe Social Anxiety(AvPD), Anxiety, severe ADHD, OCD, Depression and likely Borderline - or some sort of social mood disorder. And possibly some other things I cant quite put my finger on?
Yes, that means ive diagnosed myself(I know....)
I'm looking for a Doc who's liberal, open minded, empathatic. Willing to listen to my suggestions(on meds and possible therapy).
I have never been to any kind of mental health professional in my life(23); So i'm not sure where to start. I don't know If I should see a therapist, psychologist; but i'm positive I need medication...
Ive tried to look up Dr. Daniel Kaufman(a rec. from this board) but it appears he's not covered under my insurance.
It would be nice if I were to meet a doc that didn't freak if I were to give him a list of my 'self-diagnosis' label me a hypochondriac, hand me a scrip for Paxil, and call it a day. I'm not unintellegent.

Also, how quickly can I expect help? I need it *very* soon... :(
heres a list of psych's within 30 miles of me that I can visit. http://home.houston.rr.com/s13/psych.txt
If you know of a good one around north houston(which would be out of 30 mi radius) please let me know.

ANY advice is appreciated!!

Jon

I don't think I should talk about specific doctors on the board, but if you send me an email I know about a few of them - by experience or recommendation.

The DBSA has a listing of doctors recommended by their members. It might be worth a look.
