What medications help slow thoughts and memmories.

Posted by BRC on August 23, 2004, at 17:52:09

Hi, I have a problem where my thoughts are constantly racing (I am not Bi-polar are anything). I just cant get a hold of my thoughts. I also have a problem where I have constant unwanted memmory flashes (not bad memmories just old memmories one after the otherO

For example I will be watching t.v. or reading and my thoughts race constantly and I have constant memmory recalls and images.

I was wondering if there was any medication that would slow the thought process down. In my current condition I have no ability to concentrate or complete tasks because my brain is out of control (never used drugs and do not drink)

I would appreciate anyone with any ideas, suggestions, or comments. THANKS.

It may not work for everyone, but for me Lexapro has helped stop some of my persistent *worrying*. My Dx - PMDD and depression, but also have mild OCD's (*racing* thoughts, nail and cuticle destruction, fidgeting, repeating songs in the head, insomnia).

The only OCD that got worse is nail/cuticle destruction, and fixed that by getting my nails *done* (false). Paid enough for them too, so don't want to mess them up now.

Good luck in your search~~~8|8

what did your doc diagnose your problem as?

if you follow the instructions from someone with ADHD and you have OCD you'll have a problem.

if you follow advise from someone who has OCD and you have ADHD you'll have a problem.

I agree. It sounds like ADD in which case an ADD drug may help. But is there also anxiety and/or depression and/or OCD involved?

My pdoc's have diagnosed me with OCD, anxiety, and depression.

My thoughts are hard to control (imposible sometimes). I take 60mg of Lexapro, 4mg Klonopin, and 30mg Remeron. But my thoughts still race out of control. But the strangest thing is I have uncontrolable recall of memories--not bad just uncontrolabe memmory recall. Memmories and images of memmories from 10-15 years ago constantly all day long.

Any adive or help woul be grealy appreciated.

Hi:
Your 'racing thoughts' actually aggrevating by taking one of 'potent anti-depressants,' Lexapro. You may need a mood-stabilizer or Anti-psycho. med. to calm down your 'racing thoughts.' Because, this form of problems is one of 'hardest' problem for most of pdocs. to deal with, due to some 'complexities' involved.

However, you've been on ALREADY three different meds., then it might be tough to find which med. has negative effect on your problem.

You may need some 'stronger/potent' med. to alleviate symptoms/racing thoughts.

Personnaly I would see if you can change the remeron to trazodone. When I took celexa and remeron, I had racing thoughts, but when I changed to celexa and trazodone they subsided. I assume that the racing thoughts were due to the fairly strong noradrenic effects of remeron.

I assume you are using remeron to augment the lexapro, perhaps to provide sleep ???

Are your depression, OCD, and anxiety currently under control? If so, ask your doctor about ADD medication such as Strattera, Ritalin, or Adderal.
