You know, there are a million things you can do, kiddo, and see how they work. The bottom line is you have to find the right answer for you. That's likely to be different from the right answer for me, so I can't tell you.

As for safety, sure -- it's safe enough, if you don't overdo the supplements (much better to get the nutrients from nutritious foods). On the other hand, based solely on what we see of you here -- frequent, anxious cries for relief from your suffering -- I'd recommend that you talk to your doctor about getting a great diet and exercise program going to AUGMENT the effects of your meds, rather than replace them. Don't get me wrong -- I'm not by any manner of means saying you're not suffering. I believe you are, and I'd like to see you get adequate relief from that pain. If it takes meds to do it, then by all means take the meds.

For me, way back when the earth's crust was still cooling, my therapist insisted that meds would make progress more difficult, that any apparent progress made while on meds was false, etc. I didn't go on meds at all until I was so far gone my primary care physician *insisted* that I see a psychopharmacologist that she referred me to -- actually told me that this was a friend of hers and she'd be checking up on me -- and go on anti-depressants. Guess what? All those years of torment and hell -- for what? I made a heck of a lot more progress in therapy the first few months after getting the depression relieved than I'd made in at least a year before. I could have saved myself that suffering, if I hadn't tried to go it alone, taken the high road.

Yes, good diet and adequate exercise will help you. If they're not enough, and I don't think I'd advise you to expect that they will be, then save yourself the suffering and take an anxiolytic. It's up to you, though.

My question for you is how safe would you be were you to stop treatment all together? Would you become suicidal?

Ever thought about this. Take a very small dose of an antidepressant, say 37.5 of effexor, and then take lithium to augment its action.

Lithium might be good for you as it has a very calming action and for me (constantly concerned about cardiac function) it was a life saver.
It can prevent sudden changes of cardiac function whilest under stress.

You gotta do what you gotta do. I know you need to find out for yourself whether you really need meds or not. I don't blame you. You are still so young. It might be easier to decide what to do if you start off being clear with yourself what you demand from treatment. How do you want to feel and function? Is what you are doing now accomplishing the goal? How long are you willing to test any one treatment before moving on to the next one? What side effects should you reasonable expect to experience with each treatment? Is the goal worth the compromise? What treatment alternatives are available to try next? Should I go back to something that I have already tried? Etc.

Perhaps you should keep a mood/anxiety log to see how you respond to the different treatment strategies you explore in the future. Be aware that Inderal (propranalol), a beta-blocker, has been suspected to produce depression as a side effect. Although there has been debate on this issue over the years, my inclination is to believe that it can. You won't know until you try.

Good luck!
