The combo is safe. What about the lithium "tid"? Are you supposed to take 900mg three times a day? That would most certainly be a mistake. Most people end up taking between 900-1500mg per day for bipolar disorder. You know that.
Best wishes.

Sorry i was unclear -- the "tid" refers
to
300mg lithium per day -- i.e. 900 per day; What worries me is that 900mg lithium per
day WITH the imipramine dose may be neurotoxic.Tx

Why would your doctor prescribe some thing that was unsafe. Couldn't you tell your doctor if you don't think it will work for you. Or you could try it for a while and see.

Maybe Linkadge can comment on this. I have never heard of such a thing. It should be safe.

Thanks for your reassurance; i've been
reading the pharmacological horror stories
for too long; but to be frank i *did* see
a caution for serotonin and meoclonic
danger on drug.com; on the other hand
Pub-Med papers recommend imipramine and
lithium combinations. I just thought that
an adjunct would be something like an
addition of 300mg not the whole 900mg hog.tx again

p.s. i'll let you know how it goes - this
btw is related to the gastro problem post
a couple of weeks ago from me, where Panda
responded that he/she thought it may be a
liver problem.

If you tolerate the 900mg, I guess that would end up being a time saver and perhaps represent some insurance just in case you have some atypical presentation of bipolar disorder. If it works - God willing - you can adjust the dosage downward.
Good luck, and don't worry.

Squiggles,
I was prescribed a similar concoction after my combination of Nardil and Surmontil popped out. I am now on 1200mg Lithium, 100mg Amitriptyline and 80mg Proponolol. This has by far been the most effective combination I have tried for my treatment resistant unipolar depression.
I wouldn't worry too much about the lithium as regular blood tests are taken to assess where in the therapeutic window. I hope you find the same relief as I am now enjoying.
