Posted by becksA on July 8, 2004, at 20:39:53

I just changed pdocs, and for my social anxiety/depression....she is changing my xanax XR to Klonipin, and adding Pamelor. she said Pamelor may have some anti-anxiety effects as well. Anybody heard anything about this?

hello there, chemist here...pamelor is one of the brand names for nortriptyline. this is classified as a tricyclic antidepressant, and i would check out the posts under the thread above entitled P450-CYP2D6, as there are 2 posts that profer different stories in re: this drug for helping with sleep (not anxiety, as you mention, but these posters could give you more information than i, as i have not taken the drug)...all the best, chemist

hello, I have taken pamelor (nortriptyline) for a number of years, it is the only AD so far that I have found consistently tolerable. It started blocking panic attacks immediately. I did not find it effective for social anxiety, but Klonopin will help with that. btw I should note that I am a severely anxious person, and in addition to 100 mg nortriptyline I also take 30 mg buspirone and 1 mg Klonopin. good luck
