Hypomania - good or bad?

Posted by Angel Girl on July 5, 2004, at 22:05:30

I'm BPII and I have to admit that I *really* miss my hypomanic episodes. Due to meds I'm on, I haven't had one since autumn 2001.

bad - I spent waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much money and took risks that I normally wouldn't. I can't afford (no pun intended) to go through that again.

good - For once in my life I felt *happy*. I enjoyed life.

Now I'm left with no joy or happiness in my life and I so desperately want that back. OTOH, I can't get myself into MAJOR debt again and doing risky things.

Why can't I have both? Why do I have to give up the joy and happiness to gain *control* back in my life.

I'm soooooooooooo tired of feeling depressed all the time and nothing seems to help with that.

A saddened and discouraged AG

Well, I never posted a response on here and I hope I don't sound too corny! I too liked the mania. I got in WAY too much trouble. When I first got om medication I thought I lost my personality... nothing bothered me and I was like Oh well WHATEVER.. very boring
I try to find new and exciting hobbies. I have picked up scuba diving and a few other things. I have also put a lot of energy into making other people happy. If I can't be happy maybe I can at least make other people happy(My husband is very confused by this).
Im sure it is for the best that your not experiencing the hypomania and spending lots of $$$$
Know you are not alone in feeling that way!

You don't sound corny at all. It's good to hear I'm not the only one who misses the mania (well at least the fun parts of it). I'm glad you've picked up some new hobbies. I don't have the energy to do anything and can't find interest in anything either. I'm as confused as your husband to hear that you can find ways to make other people happy even though you aren't yourself. What do you do? BTW, welcome to the board.

I hope you find this AG. I went on vacation and tried several times to post a response but, it just wasn't working.
What do I do? Well, as of now, I just recently lost my job after 9 years. I do not know what I am going to do now. I am happy I don't have to go back but I need to find a new job. A new job sounds very scary to me.
I am very depressed today/ maybe I will go to church
I wanted to be more encouraging but it is just not working.
Hope you have a great day AG
