Switching from Paxil to Zoloft?

Posted by bluebird on July 3, 2004, at 17:38:00

Has anyone switched from Paxil to Zoloft For severe SAD? Paxil has helped but must take Clonazepam in kind of high doses for events. Just need feed back on if Zoloft might be better. Have considered Nardil or Parnate but not before I try other SSRI's. Thanks, Bluebird

I've never understood Zoloft's approval for SAD. Paxil is hands down the best SSRI for all anxiety. I went from Paxil to Zoloft simply because I wanted to try something different but was sorry I did as far as treatment goes because Zoloft increased anxiety across the board and never got better even after 6 weeks, I was sorry I stopped the Paxil because I had been on it for about a year and had to start over from square one. Also, when I restarted Paxil I had initial sexual sides which weren't an issue before and it has not seemed to work as good after stopping it and starting it again.

If you are getting positive results with Paxil, I myself would not make the change to Zoloft.

Thanks for your input. Have you tried Parnate or Nardil? I read that Parnate is great for SAD. From what I have read it is hands down the best. I know it has some dietary restrictions but that is no big deal. Do you find that on Paxil you still have to take something else with it when you have situations or events coming up?
Thanks, bluebird

I've not tried any MAOI. I took 20mg Paxil mono with good results. Right now I'm on a different path taking Lamictal with Keppra, two anticonvulsants.

I am taking 80mg of Paxil along with Clonazepam. The dose of Clonazepam varies according to what is going on. I up my Paxil dose when I have company or go on a trip. I am in the process of lowering it slowly to 50 to 60 mg.
