Effexor-XR - How long does it EXTEND for you?

Posted by Corafree on July 1, 2004, at 20:56:42

As a test, because I was having anxiety and panic attacks beginning 4to5p until h.s., on 75mg a.m. and 37.5mg p.m. of Effexor-XR; today, I took 75mg @ 9a, 37.5mg @ 1p, and 37.5mg @6p. I have had no anxiety at all today, a panic attack that resolved in less than 90 seconds, and an increase in energy!!! So, like I said earlier, extended release does not seem to last as long as it is expected, at least in me. There must be someone else who has discovered this similarity w/ Effexor extended release. Hope to hear from u.

I have read that effexor works best when administered throughout the day. Maybe you're getting withdrawals the original way you were taking it. Some people have written that they have withdrawal feelings if they take their dosage an hour late. I never had that problem

It's a good idea to split it up, I'd do that myself but I am too lazy. :) I find that XR lasts me about 20 hours & sometimes I have withdrawl brain zaps before my next dose is due.

Cheers,
Panda.

Well I took 37.5mg this morning at 5 am and i just took the other half now at 11:00. so far i am doing better - tired but not terribly exhausted like usual. yesterday i took 75mg at 5 am and another 37.5 in afternoon and felt shaky. i think you are right - it doesnt quite last that long for me. i think the halflife is supposed to be 9-11 hours though. i am going to do the half and half for the next few days and see how i feel. thanks a lot!

I just remembered the main reason besides laziness that I don't split my dose is that if I take it alone it causes me nausea, but taken with Remeron it is fine. I would split it if I could. I should keep a journal too as my memory isn't as good as it use to be before I started taking AD's :)

Cheers,
Panda.

Yes, feels best to have one dose in a.m. and one smaller dose around five hours later (that is around the half-life time of the Effexor-XR), and maybe none in the evening. Three doses of Effexor-XR during one day built up too much. Yes, backing down to two, one upon waking and one smaller dose five hours later. I'm hanging in here w/ this .. see how it goes.

I only took 37.5mg today and so far i feel better. a little tired around noon but laid down. Am getting stuff done around the house so that alone is a huge improvement from the need to sleep all day :) i am gonna stick with this for a while... i can always take the other half if i need to, but i am gonna hold off as long as i dont.

Hey Panda - It is a plastic capsule so i just open it and pour half in each side of the cap. i know this isnt the absolute best way, but couldnt figure out any other way. i feel better taking less though. and i have been taking a vitamin with iron too so hopefully that will help.
