I want to taper off Lithium and Lamictal - Help

Posted by littlep24 on June 30, 2004, at 19:03:19

Hi,
I am BP II and have short and infrequent mania. Mostly depression with a few good days here and there. Personally, I am not sure I am BP and never wanted to start the mood stabilizers. They have done nothing but suck the life out of me.
I have been on lithium for 1 year 1200 mgs mostly now at 900 mgs. Lamictal I was on for one month about a year ago then was taken off of it, not sure why. I just started it again one month ago I am at 50 mgs right now and I take 900 mgs trileptal.
I have read others that say since their mania is short and infrequent their doctors did not put them on mood stabilizers, I wish mine didn't. FYI I was on adderall and effexor a couple of years ago which I loved made me energetic focused but was considered hypomanic, I still think of this combo every day.

Looking forward to your thoughts.

Howdy. This might be obvious but... Did you ask your doc if you could go back on the cocktail that was working for you?

I tell my doc when I take myself off drugs (taper), and he doesn't have a problem with it. I generally do it because they are causing me too many side-effects, etc.

I don't hear great things about Lithium, but that's just my experience.

I'd let your doc know about what you wrote here. If that doesn't help, I'd say, get a new doc!. ;)
