Lexapro Bad Dreams???

Posted by captain on June 16, 2004, at 9:18:03

Ok, I am on day 10 of Lexapro - 10mg. And I must say that I am having some scary dreams people! What in the world! I used to dream happy things like getting engaged or just funny dreams - but last night I dreamt some insanely large yellow poisonous snake was trying to spit venom on me! haha - is this a possible side effect? I have read nothing about this in the lexapro literature - but I must say that it freaks me out a bit to know that if it does have something to do with it - that this medicine effects my brain that much! I just want to eliminate some anxiety with this drug - but maybe it is more than i need?

Let me know if anyone has experienced this! :)

Hi! Vivid dreams is another side effect of Lexapro. You are on day 10 which is too soon for the SE's to subside. On the other hand, you seem to have avoided the other SE's of Lexapro which, trust me, are far worst than the vivid dreams. Hang in there you will be feeling much better in a few weeks.
good luck!

I am at about the same place with lexapro--a little over a week. I have had, in the past couple of nights, some unusual dreams as well. Not nightmares, exactly, just unusually vivid and specific dreams. It will be interesting to see how this pans out--I hope these nightmares subside for you!

What other things have you guys experienced? Have you noticed any numbness/heavyness in your foot/leg on one side? (I am sort of a hypochondriac - thus the lexapro) but I swear I feel some odd heavy, just out of sorts in my foot and lower leg on the right side. I didn't know if that was a possible side effect.

I am an instructor part time at my gym so I am very active physcially - so I tend to notice this stuff more. Just curious! (ps. can't wait for the foggy head to clear which I hear will in the next week or so!)
Thanks for the post guys! Nice to chat with others for sure!

The first 2-3 weeks on Lex were hell for me. Severe anxiety, depression, headache, flu-like symptoms, fever, foggy head, insomnia and being extremely tired were just some of the SE's I suffered. All eventually subsided and by week 8 I was feeling very well...

ssris give you vivid dreams. I like them. Sometimes they are bad or violent but more often just bizarre and fascinating and bot scary. Not many sexual ones though . I had screaming nightmares most of my life before AA and shrinks

Captin,
Welcome to the website... I have had weird dreams on Lexapro as well. They have decreased as I have been on it (in my 5th month). I took Zoloft for a few weeks before and had HORRIBLE scary dreams, I got off it because of the awful side effects. I think Zoloft was too strong for me but with any of these drugs, you have to realize your are messing with your brain chemistry, you are bound to have some weird dreams, as I said, they decresed in a month or two on lexapro.
Good luck,
lexy

I get the weird dreams too. They are more often strange than bad. It's also common now for me to remember two or three dreams from the previous night after I wake up.

Now after nine months I'm weaning off the Lexapro. I just started the process today. Hopefully in a few weeks I'll be off the stuff and still feeling good. Time will tell.

John

I have experienced some of that. I dream every night now since I've been on Lexapro. It's like mini-movies every night. Most are good and usually very funny but some are a bit scary. I just have to shake them off the next day.

I personally can relate to what you are talking about it.

I don't remember mine any more. I had vivid dreams, usually not scary, but now I just sleep so soundly (this old INSOMNIAC is SOOOO Thankful Lex lets me SLEEP!!!) through the nite I wake refreshed and usually do not remember dreams any more. Been on Lex 15+ mos.~~~8|8

I forget if it was Lexapro or Effexor that when going off of it, I got nightmares. I NEVER have nightmares either, so it was strange to have them.
I don't scare easily (or at all really), so my knightmares we're basically very disturbing.
I've been off those drugs for months now, and I'm back to 0 nightmares.

I just quit taking Lexapro 4 days ago. I was on 30mg for the past 8 months and quit cold turkey because I didnt like the weight gain. I have had the weirdest dreams since I stopped and every night gets a little more weird! they are scary. the whole time i was on lex i did have vivid dreams, more thought provoking than anything but the last several nights have been awful. Today i went to my doc and he prescribed wellbutrin, we'll see if these weird dreams go away. the bad thing is they involve people i deal with on a daily basis. not monsters but scary stuff. good luck.

Hi Vonnie,

I have vivid dreams too! I sometimes can't remember if I actually had the conversation or if I dreamt it!

As far as the weight gain, did that start to occur when you went up in your dosage? That is what I have heard - so I was just curious. Best of luck to you on wellbutrin!
