I don't come here often but wanted to tell you guys that I was on remeron for one month and put on 15 pounds. I am not overweight to begin with, but 15 pounds makes me out of the healthy range for me. I was very distraught over this, the hunger and cravings on remeron were hellish, and I tried everything I read here to stop the cravings. I even joined weight watchers, followed the diet, and put on weight!!!!!!! Now, that is depressing.
I weaned myself off of it and went to pdoc who upped my wellbutrin xr or xl or whatever it is to 450 mg...the max dosage.
I am not sure if it is the wellbutrin or weight watchers 3 weeks now but I can feel the weight falling off of me finally.!!!!!!!!!!
The only snag is the depression/anxiety symptoms are back....waking at night, crying more. I just couldn't hand the weight gain, though.
Just wanted to share my success in getting the weight off. It was really getting to me.

Nice one... but in my opinion my mental health is more important than my weight.. I have gained loads yeah dont get me wrong, but i am still on remeron 30mg and i am still loosing weight.. u didnt give it chance.. i been taking it for little over a year now..

I was on Remeron for about 2 1/2 years. I gained about 40 pounds on it. I did Atkins, lost some of the weight and promptly put it all back on. I watched my health decline on this med and finally had to make the choice to stop it. At the rate I was going I knew I was going to continue to get larger and larger. Now that I have been off it for a few months the weight is starting to come off, without dieting or exercise. The bloating and water retention is also gone for the most part. I would advise anyone on this med or starting this med to moniter your weight closely. Unfortunately this med was the best for me by far, but sometimes your physical health is just as important and their are alternative meds to try. Thanks for sharing your weight loss story, I am sure it will give others encouragement that are battling the same thing.

I got scared because I really can't afford to put on 15 pounds a month. It was getting out of control and my pdoc moved me up to 45 mg. I am still on wellbutrin. I have weird reactions to drugs and this is the third one we tried. My pdoc said to give it a month and to stop it if my weight gain didn't stop. I am glad you are having a good experience with it. I wish I did!!

I have read that some people don't experience the weight gain when on a higher dose. I tried the higher dose and I got 8 pounds of water retention from it so I couldn't stay on it. I did notice that the change from 30 to 45 mgs. was very different. The sedation was alot less noticable at the higher dose and I had more energy.

I didn't replace it with anything. I take Lamictal and a small dose of Zoloft. I've been okay with it for the most part, but now my sleep is bad. I slept SO good on Remeron. So now I am working of finding a sleep me that will keep me asleep through the whole night. It stinks, I really liked the Remeron. Why is it that one of the best meds for me is the only one that ever caused me weight gain? Ugh!
