UK to Austarlia,US , France for Treatment?

Posted by TheOutsider on May 28, 2004, at 18:07:12

Mental health care in the UK is appalling!

Not sure if its worth trying to find a good doctor here, there are so many stupid rules!
Like not prescribing Benzo's for more than 2 weeks.
I had one decent doctor, but he was forced to retire.

Is there anyone who has experience of going abroad?
Would it be possible for a doctor to treat me if I lived in the UK from somewere like America?
Was particularly thinking of France, since they have some good drugs and doctors

Any info apreciated!

This is something I would really be interested in. But are you talking about receiving treatment itself, or specifically having the government pay for treatment in another country?

Hey Cybercafe!

I was assuming I'd have to pay for treatment myself. Can't imagine how I'd get the government to pay.
I could go to Australia or America relatively easily. Its just a question of whether a doctor I saw their would be okay about treating me if I went back to the UK.

France is another interesting one, its good because its close, and it also has very good mental health care, I think.
Language is a big problem though, and I don't know of anyone who's actualy gone to France for mental health treatment.

yeah i've gone to the states to see pdocs... i just wanted to get a perscription (abilify) but they actually made me go through a full examination ... .cost was $100 US

i think anyone will take you if you have money... whether or not they'll give you the medication you want is another question (some are only comfortable if you go to them for longterm followup... or at least have someone in your own country who is knowledgable for longterm followup)....

what would be nicer is if you could us E 128 or whatever to see a pdoc in france instead of the UK

This is the end of the thread.
