Posted by sdb on May 27, 2004, at 7:18:14

Hi,

there is ongoing discussion if klonopin (clonazepam) would either increase or decraese sexual libio, and impotence?

What is your experience?
And are there some intestesting abstracts?

Thank you for your experience and posts.

All the best

In my case it helped probably because I was able to relax enough to get my head going that direction and my body followed.

Obviously a lot more research is needed and I try to do my part.

If anything, it may have slightly increased desire, but that could be hormonal with me.
Klonopin definitely didn't decrease any desire.

I think that klonopin does affect my desire and my ability to climax....it is either that or neurontin or both.

But it beats the hell out of gut-wrenching anxiety, so I just take it as a trade off

Neurontin is known for anaorgasmia, especially if you're above around 1800mg/day. Klonopin in sufficient doses could do this too, but I doubt you're taking that much.

Are there some abstracts?

Some say clonazepam would even increase libido and ability to have normal ed's.

I did not find any texts, articels and abstracts
, which would prove these statements.

Thank you for your help.

You couldn't find anything? Search for "gabapentin anorgasmia" in pubmed, or in google web/groups. It's all over the place. Also, the limbic system contains tons of benzodiazepine receptors; the limbic system gets real active during an orgasm. Calm the limbic system enough, and there's no way one could orgasm.

hello there, chemist here.....why, if the question was anorgasmia due to klonopin intake, would you refer to gabapentin? all the best, chemist

Because platinumbride wrote that "it [the anorgasmia] is either that or Neurontin or both".

my question was about libido/erection under clonazepam
==========================================

Orgasm is
pratically always possible, but for example with ssri's the duration to achieve is longer. You don't need to even have an erection (cut nervi splanchnici)to orgasm. The physiologicaly phenomom of orgasm is much more difficult to explain than erection.

Erection needs parasympathic nervs (S2-S4), but ejaculation needs sympathic nervs (Th12-L2)
But how exactly the spine and the brain does regulate i dont no.
