buspar and ADD

Posted by blondegirl47 on May 11, 2004, at 15:16:19

My pdoc just started me on 7.5 mg of buspar, morning and night. He said, it might help my ADD as well as my anziety. It seemed to help me be less stressed right away. I have only been on it two days.

I'd like to know other peoples reactions to it. Does it make you gain weight. My tummy was a little upset this afternoon. I ate a little before I took it. I also have a terrible headache, but that could be the weather front coming through. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. :)

I took Buspar for about six weeks for anxiety, but unfortunately it did absolutely nothing to help. That doesn't mean its not going to work for you though!

I did get headaches from it to start with but these disappeared within about a week.

Best of luck!

thanks for your input. Did you gain any weight during your six weeks?

Its strange I feel something, with this, but not sure what yet. I was in a very good mood this morning.

Hello - I have been taking Buspar for a while now (I presently take Buspar, Effexor, and Zyprexa). The biggest change I noticed after started Buspar was that I wasn't near as angry or intolerant when driving in traffic.

Hi, about a year ago I stopped taking BuSpar (and a bunch of other meds cold turkey) for anxiety. My official diagnosis at THAT time was ADD and OCD. I was diagnosed with ADD as a child as well and took Ritalin off and on, but that's besides the point. I recall that BuSpar reduced my worrying and decreased my overall stress level. It's a novel drug b/c it possesses no addictive properties and it's a pure anti-anxiety drug. Best of luck. Cheers!

Did it make you gain weight. I have been dieting all week and exercising, drinking lots of water and haven't lost an pound all week.

Hi Blondegirl,

No, I didn't find that I gained any weight from it all. No sexual side effects either. Just a few headaches and some nervousness to start with, but this went away after a week. Just a shame it didn't work!

Anyway, I hope Buspar works for you!

Take care.

Thanks a bunch for the info. What dose were you taking. Did you have any trouble sleeping while you were on it. I have noticed that I am getting to bed later and later. :)

I had good effects from Buspar for years, 5-30 mg/day depending on how I was doing. I lost weight, if anything, but that was when my depression was worsening again. No headache, but YMMV. It is absorbed better if taken with some food, and grapefruit juice can enhance the effects (8 oz. real juice unsweetened) - my pharmacist says it is really quite safe despite the grapefruit warning they put on it now.

Funnily enough, unlike Charm, it made me MORE aggressive in traffic - but I didn't blow up at anyone after a stressful day anymore.

See my recent posting to the thread BUSPAR IS THE ANSWER (success 4 me) for more of my experience with this oddball med.
