Has anyone here tried this?
The makers of Stablon (tianeptine) warn against combination with nonselective MAOIs, but selegiline (Deprenyl) is a selective MAOI at lower doses (up to 10mg/day, and I'm thinking of 5mg/day).
The reason I am considering this is I have had what I think is atypical depression, often severe, since childhood (now in my forties). I recently read that MAOIs are better for atypical dep. but I've never been on any MAOI. I did very well on Merital AM (nomifensine) but it was withdrawn many years ago. Prozac sort of worked but left me numbed and apathetic. I have now been taking tianeptine for a few months. The latter has worked well as an antidepressant, but I still lack the motivation and energy to get off my backside and do new things/meet new people.
What bad things could happen if I try adding a small dose of selegiline?
Alternatively, someone else suggested adding a dopmamine agonist to tianeptine, but I've no idea what drugs are available.
TIA
Chris
