~~~~Are your meds helping you? I am bothered when people write that the things they read here scare them into thinking they need to come off meds or certain meds. I'm not saying there aren't true awful med stories to be heard, but please keep in mind, this place generally draws commentary about PROBLEMS with meds.
Your doctor (and your gut feelings) should be the guidence you use. If your meds are a problem, discuss this with your doc... please don't look for all your resouces here or any site like this one... it's generally a slanted view.
One should be more scared to miss out on a quality life that may be found with the right meds.
thank you, i am just not wanting to make my problems worse and get to where i have to have something. today i feel weird just not quiet right. how long will it take to get use to the meds? i had cancer about 5 years ago and just so worried about it coming back, that is when all these problems started. if i can beat the cancer i am sure i can beat this.
thanks again
Your concerns are truly justified and your beating of cancer is a wonderful thing, but I can certainly understand how worry about it's return would happen. Toxic worry doesn't work well with good mental health and causes us to preceive things in a unrealistic way.. it's at least that's how it is for me.
These meds do take time to work and some of that "start up" time can be spent feeling weird and confused, but once that start up phase is over... new good ways of thought, action, and subsequently.... feelings can begin. The key is the right med and working with your doc to find that. There's nothing wrong with caring for yourself emotionally as well as you do for your physical self. I think it's all connected.
I just didn't want to see you scared off from using meds because of what you read here... after what you have been through, you deserve a great rest of your life and sometimes we need a little med help to get that.
Good Luck to you.
I hope you get things worked out and look back on all this with a "I feel so much better".
I think we learn hard lessons in tough times and I'm sure you already know that with what you have challanged and won already... hang in there.
My best to you.
Hi Candy,
I know what you mean about Prozac, it was nasty to me too! Effexor works for me & I take it with Remeron. I would suggest Remeron to you too, you can take it instead of ambien & it gives improved sleep. If Effexor works out to be a good med for you it will reduce your anxiety to a lower level & you will need much less ativan.
Cheers,
Panda.
Don't give up - you can get off of Effexor!! It is indeed a horrible drug (although I'm sure it helps some people). I have been helping my wife come off Effexor for months. Every reduction brings bad times, but they do end. She usually goes through the classic withdraw for two weeks (the first week being the worst). But they will go away. The only way to do it is slowly - reduce you mg's by 18.5 each time, deal with the problems for a couple weeks, adjust for the next month, then do it again.
Good luck - prayers on the way
