Welcome to newcomers...YOU RULE.

Posted by Phil on February 14, 2004, at 12:43:50

Hi, As one of the PB fossils, I wanted to welcome any newcomers here to the site. We were all newcomers at one time. I'm trying to think of a better word than newcomer because if you are like most of us, you've suffered in silence for years.

You do have to be nice here. If you want to make a point that you are angry at: another poster, your doctor, your significant other, yourSELF, write your post and save it for a while, walk around the block. Then post it but I, for one, need your help and concerns as much as anyone. We can't hear you if you're blocked.

If someone here attacks you for any reason, go to the Admin board or send Dr Bob an email.
We all get angry but if you retaliate to another thoughtless poster, it can escalate quickly. It is way too easy to misinterpret the written word. I still do it.

Anyway, here's some stuff I found today that may be interesting...I haven't read it yet but will before this days over.

To quote an AA phrase: "Although we may not know you, we love you just the same."

I just found the above site which is a spinoff of Ralph Nader founded http://www.citizen.org/.

I went there to research how much money pharmaceutical companies give to our nations lawmakers and to reseach these companies profits.

Take a peek at http://www.citizen.org/.
if interested but I warn you, keep a trash can or air sickness bag handy.

Do your own research and post your findings if you want. Please remember the archives and search them before posting but if you want to revive the subject, please do.

Help each other and if you want to get livid, find out how much the lawmakers in Washington are being bought off by the most profitable industry in the world, you got it, pharmaceuticals. Write them an email, tell them how you feel. Remind them you vote.

Although you may feel excluded because 'everyone seems to know each other', we really don't. Even if we did, you have suffered to get here, speak up.

If you want to feel safe, make your brothers and sisters here feel safe.

Thanks for listening(Phil takes swig of prune juice, puts on his robe, work boots, and bandana and is headed to the pharmacy.)

If you have concerns ask others you relate to if you can email them or just join them in chat.

No matter how low you feel, you are never alone.

Sorry for the long ramble.

Thanks for listening.

Phil (major depression, recurrent, treatment resistant)

ps..I hold no rank or privilige here that you don't have..nobody does. Good luck and may the farce, uh force be with you.

If you are interested in the overuse of antibiotics, as we all should be, read the book "The Killer Within".....when I worked in ER a man came in with what he thought was a spider bite to the hand. Alas, it was an antibiotic resistant infection. Surgeons removed part of his hand the next day. This happens all too often.

Man I went to the workmans comp doc and she tried to put me on them because I had a minor scrape on my arm(plus a possible elbow injury). She said It might get infected. The part that got me was she did not loke like she even took care of herself. I said no.

You know I work with some people in their late 20's-early 30's, one guy had a bad chest infection or the flu. In his case he needed antibiotics. Did he go to the doctor? No. He came in the next day taking some antibiotics his daughter never finished.

Say bro, it's a series, you have to take them all. Why is people so dang dumb?

That guy with the infection...that is scary. More plagues to come. With my luck, if I had his problem, it probably wouldn't be on my hand.
"You're gonna 'what' tomorrow, doc?"

I was having lunch with a friend I hadn't seen in 10 years and she was missing the middle finger on her left hand. She had been bitten by a brown recluse spider. I smash every spider I see now. Scary stuff out there.

Mike, Sounds like it would have gotten infected if you stuck around her too much. I called an allergy guy at random years ago. In his office, he opened a drawer with a lot of little instruments in it and it looked like someones' typical junk drawer at home.
Gross.

The blame for the overuse of the antibiotics can be put on the doctor and the patient. Dozens of patients would come to ER for a "shot" because I have this "cold".......we had one doctor who always obliged.......he said it made them "feel" better and they wouldn't come back. We also ingest antibiotics every time we eat pork, beef, chicken, lamb, etc. It is standard practice to dose our food sources with tons of medicine. I know because I used to raise feeder steers. I didn't use antibiotics but saw the huge displays at the feedstore.(for menopausal women, cattle are dosed with huges amounts of hormones, as are chickens....) There are antibiotics in the animal's food as well.......SO, the moral of this thread is.......a shot won't cure a cold, it won't cure a viral infection, it won't cure the sniffles but it will overload your system so that the next time you really need the meds, they just might not work! And it could be your hand that has to be partially removed....think about it folks! Campaign again the overuse of meds in YOUR food supply and don't ask for penicillin every time you blow your nose!
