coming off Strattera, Welbutrin,and Fluoxetine...

Posted by lyghtheded on February 4, 2004, at 21:14:40

I've been on 60 mg of fluoxetine, 300mg Welbutrin and 80-mg strattera for the past 6 months. the statttera is the newest, but I've been on the other 2 for over a year. I've lost my job and insurance, unemployment doesn't give me enough for bills and COBRA. I'm going to try to get off my meds again. this time I'm experiencing some severe dizziness and headaches. I haven't gone "cold turkey" but i've just finished the last of the fluoxetine and i'm only taking half the dosage of the other two every other day. My doc would say to get the money somehow and stay on the meds. i'm wondering if he's right this time because the way i physically feel is unlike anything i've felt before....i don't like it... will it go away? I'm startign to put on weight too and it's not good weight. i can't afford to get new clothes now my pants are gettin' tight this is all new to me. Could the weight gain be associated with the reduction in meds? Should I suck it up and find a way to stay on the pills?

I quit Strattera and an SSRI simultaneously while in a rough spot in my life, and it incapacitated me and made things a whole lot worse. If my experience is any indicator, I'd recommend staying on the meds to avoid destabilizing yourself during this difficult time.

Best wishes.

You should definitely stay on the meds. In the long run staying on the meds will help you financially because you will be better able to find and keep a new job.

All drug companies in the US offer free drugs to people who can't afford them. Check with your doc about that. If he doesn't know about the programs, let me know and I'll send you the drug company contact information.

Also, you can order drugs from Canada over the internet at a much lower price. You need to fax or mail them your doctor's prescription.
