Adderall - Another question?

Posted by BackOfClass on February 1, 2004, at 15:56:58

I just wondering... if you put Adderall XR in a cup of water, then waited 4 hours, drank it, would it be the same as taking Immediate-Release Adderall? :-)

I'm not sure about the water solubility of the extended-release coating on many of the beads... though I do know that amphetamine itself is very soluble in water. If it does dissolve entirely, then yes -- the timed-release mechanism would be destroyed and it would act like an immediate-release Adderall.

A much quicker way to do this is to simply crush the beads inside to a fine powder, though I of course don't recommend doing this against your doctor's advice. :-)

You can break them in half and you will get it all at once...or crush it..either way works...I tried it with Concerta and got the 18mg all at once...made me a spaz though

We pause for a moment for Noa to insert a little rant about people looking for ways to alter their stimulant medications.......if this doesn't apply to the question asked, please just ignore. But I'm sure that those to whom this does apply will recognize it.......

Please take it as prescribed. That there are people engaging in Adderall and other stimulant abuse is a major problem for those of us who need the medication for appropriate medical and psychiatric care. Because people abuse adderall by crushing it and taking it improperly to get a buzz, people like me have to bear the incredible inconveniences of filling prescriptions of a restricted medication---getting special approval every year from insurance companies because we are over the age of 19, not being able to refill or call in prescriptions, but having instead to always go in every 30 days with a new paper scrip, etc. etc.

If you need immediate release Adderall, talk to your doctor about that. Don't start crushing your XR.

End of rant. Thank you for your patience. We now resume regular scheduled posting.

Its very bad to crush time release medication...it could really freak out your heart.
I have read that you can open capsules and put into apple sauce. Adderall xr will kick in a little faster, and it will still be time release. As I have mentioned before Adderall works best on an empty stomach.
If you take the capsule apart be prepared for the very harsh bad taste of the bead. They will also make your mouth sore if you don't get your mouth rinse well.

what's the difference whether he snorts the powder out of a XR capsule or crushes an immediate release tab? I'm afraid the DEA is the source of the inconveniences you have experienced with schedule II meds; perhaps you should rant to them instead?
