Success w/Wellbutrin-sr above 300mg/day?

Posted by jasonr on January 29, 2004, at 10:44:42

Since I am getting off of the effexor-xr and my feelings are starting to show themselves, I think the wellbutrin-sr that I am on may be working. (PLEASE DO NOT TURN THIS THREAD INTO ANOTHER EFFEXOR THREAD!!!)

I am currently taking wellbutrin-sr 300mg. 150mg when I get up, 150mg at dinner time. I have little spots of motivation, little spots of smiles, even little spots of sexual desire.

I know that the manufacturer does not recommend doses above 400mg a day due to increased seizure rates.

I am wondering however - has anyone on here had success with higher doses of wellbutrin-sr? Does increasing past 400mg provide any benefit?

Thanks. (and again, please oh please don't make this another effexor topic! or comment on my requests to not make this an effexor topic) =)

-jason

Hi Jason:
The 400 mg. Wellbutrin SR certainly gave me 'a lot of motivation,' 'energy' and etc. that non-M.I. folks normally have in order to survive in this society. However, after two or three weeks on this dosage, I started experiencing a sort of 'dizziness' that occurred when I was behind the wheels, ... almost even started losing the track of thoughts to drive back home. After this incident, although it happened ONLY ONCE, ... but I immediately went back to the old-dosage, 300 mg. WB. Since then, things have been usual and quite calming down. BTW, as for Bipolar II, I've been on other med., not WB alone regimen. Then, in your case, if there is WB med. alone, ... things might be a bit different, ... but overall, at recommended dosage of WB is to be around 300 mg. - 350 mg.
Besides this above, if you'd feel depression even on WB 300 mg., you may ask one more Anti-dep. like some calming type of AD, on your next pdoc.s appt.
In my knowledge, mono-AD therapy(single AD) not able to alleviate symptoms if your depression is serious form.
H.G.

I tried 400 mg Wellbutrin SR, 4-100 mg pills, with bad reaction. Very jittery, felt like I would faint. 300 mg works very well for me, 200 is ok, and 100 is not enough (too tired).

I take 450mg's of Wellbutrin a day (no ill effect at all) . I'm on the 'XL' and take it every morning. I have not gotten much of the activating effect from it like I was hoping to, but it has helped some. I'm bipolar 1 and I'm on a mood stabilizer & a antipsychotic if that information helps.
