Lexapro - 2 months and still tired

Posted by Ade on January 29, 2004, at 9:06:43

I have been reading threads since my doctor prescribed Lexapro and the site has been extremely helpful. Lex has evened out my moods and seems to be curbing my anxieties.

The problem that I am having is that I become lethargic around 7pm. I have always been someone who can't sit still so this seems really odd to me. I am no longer having to take naps, but I get so tired around 9pm and can't seem to get out of bed in the morning. My motivation for most things seems low.

I take it at bedtime every day. Does the tiredness eventually wear off? If so, when?

I've been taking my Lex first thing in the morning as it tends to get me wired. Perhaps you could try to take the med at a different time and see if that helps any.

As for the tiredness, I went through some of that, but my theory is that I really _was_ tired, (anxiety can wear you out) and the Lex helped me to slow down enough mentally to help me notice that I did need more rest than I had been getting.

I try now really hard to focus on my rest every day. If I'm tired I'll sit down and put my feet up and listen to some music. If I'm wired, I'll use that energy. I guess I'm trying to say that I'm listening to my body more now. I couldn't _hear_ it before the Lex.

Good luck and hang in there!!!!!

Hi

I have been experimenting with Lexapro 10mg and I now find out that taking it before you go to bed is the best thing ever....it causes lots of drowsiness, so it is perfect for going to bed.

I, too, got really tired on Lexapro. My doc put me on a higher dose of it for awhile thinking maye it was the depression. That just made the tiredness worse, so we determined it was a side effect of the Lexapro. We brought my Lex dosage back down and then added 100mg of Wellbutrin SR, and that seemed to help with the tiredness. Problem was, if I didn't take enough Lexapro, the Welbutrin made me a little anxious. So, it was a matter of balancing the two just right- you might want to discuss options with your doctor like adding a tiny bit of Welbutrin to take along with your Lex to see if it helps with the tiredness- worked for me.

I had the same problems with Celexa (very similar to Lexapro) after two months and my p-doc said I could quit it. No withdrawal at all. I'm not suggesting you should quit it, just reporting my experience. Good Luck

Hi Ade,

There are meds you can add to lexapro to make you feel less tired. I think someone already mentioned Wellbutrin, your pdoc could probably recommend something.

I've been on lex for about a month and a half. Last week I felt pretty energized, but I increased my dose to 15 mg last night and I'm feeling lethargic again. If you find a solution, I'd love to know what it is!

Best of luck to you,
K.
