Seizures froom Paxil????

Posted by Rainbowlight on January 28, 2004, at 23:07:30

My 16 year old niece is in the hospital having pretty bad seizures. They are blaming it on the Paxil. She was on 50 mgs. per day. Along with 100 of Lamictal. They don't think it was the Lamictal, they think it was the Paxil. They have discontinued it. They now have her on Dilantin to control the seizures. The seizures seem to be triggered by food also, they say it has something to do with the blood sugar. They have given her an MRI and an EEG. They say both are fine. Has anyone ever heard of this happening?

I have no first hand knowledge of Paxil causing seizures but all of the SSRI's & Tricyclic anti-depressants tend to be pro-convulsants to some degree. Low blood sugar can cause a seizure too. Lamictal is an anti-convulsant, it's primarily given to epileptics, secondary usage is as a mood stabilizer.
