Since this involves an alternative treatment AND a traditional med, I'll post here and on the regular Psycho-Babble Alternative board, too.
Some years ago, I was DXd as BPII, but about a year ago my pdoc and I started questioning the original DX. The most recent leaning is that I am mildly OCD or GAD as a recent depression (I rarely go in the other direction, and then only very mildly) improved dramatically within a few days of starting on Ativan. However, since I was still somewhat down, the pdoc RXd Lamictal.
I had been on it for about six weeks and was up to 75mg/day when I got a rash and flu symptoms. She decided to take me off the Lamictal by taking 50mg/day for one week and then stopping altogether. She said she thinks compulsive behaviors and/or anxiety are more of a problem for me than mood, so she isn't prescribing anything else but the Ativan for right now. (I take 0.5 to 2.0 mg at night.)
Here's the thing, though. I'd like to try flax oil to manage my sometimes depression (not to mention my cholesterol). Advice on when, how much to take? Can either of these (Ativan/flax oil) counteract or react with each other? I am completely ignorant about mixing therapies like this.

1- Ativan *alone* for the treatment of BP II or OCD or GAD is totally useless and irresponsible from your pdoc.
2- I understand how you feel: anxious, untreated, etc... but don't waste your time and money with Flax, Fish or Frog oil ;-)
3- Try to have a better treatment for your condition.
