Wellbutrin SR + lucid dreams....HELP!

Posted by Moondanse on January 25, 2004, at 13:41:39

I've been on antidepressants for about 9 years now. I was on Prozac for about 5, but was having increased panic attacks and crazy nightmares. Since being taken off Prozac, I feel like I've been on every drug under the sun.
Right now I'm taking Wellbutrin SR 150mg once a day right before bed. The only reason why I'm on this drug is because it's the only one since Prozac that didn't make things worse. I can't say that I feel better on it, I just don't feel worse.
The biggest problem-I haven't had a sound nights sleep in years. I've been taking Trazadone for the last 4 years to help me get to sleep. The Wellbutrin gives me the most vivid dreams though and there are times that I don't want to wake up so I can finish the dream. I don't ever feel rested in the morning. Most of the time it feels like I was awake all night...the dreams wipe me out.
The last three weeks have been awful, I haven't slept at all. I look and feel like hell and I'm soooo irritable. I have Ambien which helps at least get me to that dream state, but I still feel beat the next day.
It's gotten so bad that I've considered just stopping the Wellbutrin altogether. I feel like my mood swings and depression would be so much better if I would just feel refreshed in the morning.
This is the first time I'm posting on a website looking for help, but if anyone has any suggestions they would be much appreciated.

Why in the world are you taking it before bed! It's activating and it should be taken morning or early afternoon.

I also have experienced vivid dreams while on Welbutrin. I was actually on 100mg of Welbutrin and 20 mg of Lexapro. I've gradually been coming off of Lexapro, and I noticed while decreasing my dose, the dreams became more vivid. I haven't felt like I've had a good night's sleep in weeks. I've been off of both the Welbutrin and the Lexapro for about a week now, and I've been dizzy with a bad headache. The dizziness is gradually tapering off, but the severe headache won't get better. Will this headache ever go away, and if so, when?? Does anyone know if there are any long term effects of Welbutrin and Lexapro after coming off of them? I fear that now I've somehow triggered something and am now prone to migraines, which I never had before going on these drugs. Are there other withdrawal symptoms I should be expecting?

Moondanse-
I have been on Wellbutrin 300mg for about 3 and a half months now. I am also on 10 mg of Lexapro. I did have a really hard time sleeping before adding the Lexapro. I had some crazy dreams. But never any lucid dreams that I can recall. Mostly I just remember only getting about 4 hours of sleep a night. That did start to wear on me. I would definitely suggest taking the Wellbutrin in the morning. That might help you sleep at night. Also you might ask your doctor about any sleeping aids he could perscribe until your body gets use to the new meds. Hope things get better and hope you get a good night sleep soon.

Thanks! I've actually been on the Wellbutrin for a couple of years. The sleep disturbance is just starting to wear on me and it's gotten worse lately. I'm going to try to take the meds in the morning and hope it will be enough to help out.
