Lexapro and Welbutrin withdrawal

Posted by weky on January 25, 2004, at 16:49:55

I have been on 100mg of Welbutrin and 20 mg of Lexapro. I've gradually been coming off of Lexapro, and I noticed while decreasing my dose, the dreams became more vivid. I haven't felt like I've had a good night's sleep in weeks. I've been off of both the Welbutrin and the Lexapro for about a week now, and I've been dizzy with a bad headache. The dizziness is gradually tapering off, but the severe headache won't get better. Will this headache ever go away, and if so, when?? Does anyone know if there are any long term effects of Welbutrin and Lexapro after coming off of them? I fear that now I've somehow triggered something and am now prone to migraines, which I never had before going on these drugs. Are there other withdrawal symptoms I should be expecting?

I thought it was interesting to see your post, because I have (almost) just finished tapering off Lexapro while staying on Wellbutrin.

I was on Lex 20 mg for like 8 months... An orgasm was a long time coming, like a really long time. Also, I would wake myself up by talking loudly in my sleep many times in a night. Also put on some weight a few months ago out of the blue.

I started WB XL 300 mg/day to try and offset some of these side effects. I felt less depressed, but the side effects continued, so I have been tapering off the Lexapro.

I am now taking 5 mg every other day, and I will probably quit completely in a few days. Already, after only 2 weeks of lowering the Lex dose, I can reach orgasm in a normal period of time and I don't wake myself up in my sleep. Hooray! Now we will see what effects the WB has on me...

Hope this helps. Good luck!

psychlover,
i had low libido when i was on lexapro as well. then i went on wellbutrin sr to offset that side effect as well as being really tired. that seemed to work well for both side effects. i did try to lower my lexapro at one point, but the wellbutrin caused anxiety when i didn't have enough lexapro, so be careful of that. it took the right combination of both for me to feel good. i'm now coming off both and experiencing weird side effects. i posted a new thread concerning that.

Thanks, Weky. Your warning is timely. Today I felt some tension in my chest that I sometimes get from being anxious. I have not taken any Lex for 2 days now, so that could be why.

Let me know how you the withdrawal goes for you.

All the best,

Well, today is 3 days off Lex... felt a bit spacier than usual... WB has had that effect on me. Also, some tingling in my face. Also, a bit of tightness in my chest this evening, but it went away without taking anything for it. Got my blood pressure taken, it was kind of high, but that may or may not be from the WB.

On the plus side, it is now MUCH easier to get an orgasm (too quick actually! back to Lex? ;-), and I seem to be losing weight. Could it be the WB is actually working so soon after going off the Lex?

I'll keep you updated :-)

All the best,
psychlover
