Hi.

Memantine is a drug that has recently been approved by the FDA to treat Alzheimer's Dementia. It has been used in Germany for over a decade to treat Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and depression. It is a sister drug to amantadine (Symmetrel), which is used for Parkinson's. Some people think that memantine will prevent them from developing tolerance when taking amphetamines. I'm hoping it will prevent poop-out.

It's also shown promise for alcohol craving and possibly some forms of depression.

Scott, it is interesting that you bring up memantine as it will likely also be used as a glaucoma med in the future. What I have read on this chemical in reference to glaucoma therapy, it appears that it may not have too many deliterious side effects which would also so be a boon for pdocs. Take care . Micro

I've just tried Memantine - and it works!
It has the stimulating effect on me - but this is only my experience.
This is my second day on Memantine. On my first day all my depression symptoms were alleviated.
I cleaned my house until 11 pm.
I wish these results were here to stay, as I'm treatment resistant.

That's GREAT!

I'll be praying for you, Anna.

Tell me, where did you get the memantine from?

Hi there. I am glad you are feeling better. I just wondered if you thought maybe the med was making you hypo-manic. The reason I ask is because when I go hypo-manic that is the one thing I start to do ... clean the house. I can go on forever. Anyhow, I just wanted to ask you if you thought that is what was happening.

Good luck to you.

Maxime

Scott, why did you receive a letter from them? Is there some sort of mailing list that you are on?

Anna, that's great news. Are you on any other medications or did you take the Memantine by itself? How many milligrams do you take?

Hi Maxime.

Yes. There was a e-mail list that you could signup for at their website. I think the URL is www.memantine.com

Hello there,

I took Memantine for a few days 10 mg twice daily. By now it starts to wear off, but I ve been treatment resistant for years.

Bui it's definitely worth trying, and there are no side effects besides a little cognitive effects.

Good luck to all the people who respond to AD's treatment.

I'm sorry to hear that your initial response to memantine did not continue. I appreciate the time you took to post your results.

Do you think it might be worth staying with the memantine to augment other antidepressants? Perhaps you need to take memantine for a few weeks before it begins working again.

Thanks again.
