Do Written Prescriptions Expire?
My doc wanted me to have a few of extra weeks of Klonopin on hand and he wrote me a prescription for a 3-week supply, in addition to my regular prescription. I have been refilling my regular prescription monthly. Can I just keep his written prescriptions on hand, or do they expire after a certain amount of time?

belive its one year. I've never had a prescription for more than a year supply eather.

Depends in what country u live:
Canada and US the bezo Rx expires after half year and Ritalin (US) after 2 weeks

i'd call the pharmacy, i think it is on average a year but less for certain drugs.

just thought of something....you can take it to the pharmacy and leave it there. explain why you aren't filling it and call them to fill it when you need it. i have done this several times.

Yes, you can leave it at the pharmacy, and fill it later, but they still expire one year from when it was writen.

You could always ask your doctor to post-date it... this especially comes in handy with Schedule II prescriptions when you're going out of town and will miss an appointment or two. I'm not sure how it is throughout the U.S., but here in TX a Schedule II prescription (they stopped using triplicates here... I wonder why?) expires seven days after it's dated.

It depends on the medication, country, and state. My prescriptions for Adderall ( a Schedule II amphetamine) have to be filled within a week (in Texas, at least). I think that some states (especially NY) have more restrictive rules for benzodiazepines (like Klonopin) than others.
It's best to ask your doctor or pharmacist to be sure.
