welbutrin/zoloft combination

Posted by iso_ananda on January 18, 2004, at 12:17:52

Hello all, I've been on SSRI's for depression for over ten years and have been taking Zoloft for about 3 yrs. I was having problems with decreased libido and asked my doc about adding wellbutrin to the zoloft. Since I occasionally suffer from panic attacks he warned me that Wellbutrin might contribute to anxiety but agreed to let me try it. I'm now on 100mg Zoloft and 300mg WellbutrinXL (recently increased from 150). I feel great, more energy, decreased appetite, and increased libido, have even been able to cut down on my caffeine intake. I'm interested in anyone elses experiences, especially those who have been on a similar combination for an extended period of time.

I'm currently on Wellbutrin XL 300mg and was also taking Paxil. I'm quitting the Paxil because I could not have sex on it even with the Wellbutrin. Paxil works great for me but is the worst for Sexual Dysfunction in all areas. My doctor suggested I try Zoloft because out of all the SSRI's, it is suppose to have the least sexual side effects. I'm starting low 25mg and maybe going to 50mg. Could you still have sex with Zoloft but just lower libido? I'm almost scared to start it because of the time it takes to adjust to new meds and hate to wait a month to find out I'm sexless. Any positive things with Zoloft? I'm mainly taking it for GAD, SAD and will still take the Wellbutrin XL with it.

My pdoc is adding Wellbutrin to my Paxil intake at the beginning of February for the same reasons as you went on it... I will definitely let you know what my effects are- I hope they are as good as yours!! <Cross my fingers>

I have the same problem with Paxil, and I'm getting Wellburtrin in a few weeks to add to it... now I'm wondering if I'm going to have to totally get off the Paxil (it works for me too, but the no sex thing is KILLING ME and has been for too long)

I took Zoloft before Paxil, and for me it had too many side effects that made me unhappy (not sexual, though) I lost too much weight (waaaaaay too much, I looked gross) and I lost hair- but I don't think those are nbormal side effects, so don't take mine as the norm.

I'm interested in what my doc will try.... I have ADHD as well, which the WellButrin will help too (and I have BPII which WellB is supposed to be beneficial for in some was as well)

keep me posted!

Unfortunately, with SSRI's you don't know what it's going to do to you until you take it. I have heard from several people though, that Paxil just obliterates your sex drive. With Zoloft the only problem I had was libido, I was able to orgasm but I didn't really care, sex was boring. I'm doing great now, hopefully the combination will work for you too. Also, my doc said that Lexapro was a good substitute for people with s/d issues. It didn't work for me, but it does for many others. Good Luck!

Good luck, just keep in mind, if you have a problem with keeping weight on, Wellbutrin might decrease your appetite dramatically. I can stand to lose some but I still need to eat and I have to force myself, my appetite is completely gone most of the time. I've been on it one month and I've already lost 15lbs.

Hi, I am on effexor, klonopin, wellbutrin, and more. The klonopin made me like a zombie at work. Once the wellbutrin was added I was fine. ps Also got sex drive back. I also cannot function at work without the klonopin. terrics

I was on Zoloft/Wellbutrin combo. for a while. (not on either of those now). The Wellbutrin did help my concentration and energy. My appetite was already killed by the Zoloft -- I can't remember if it was further killed by the Wellbutrin although I think I lost more weight when the Wellbutrin was added. I completely lost all craving for caffeine. Unfortunately it made me extremely irritable which is why I had to discontinue it, so I don't think I was on it long enough to realize an improvement in libido/sexual function.

Good luck.
