Prolactin levels chart availability??

Posted by Maxime on January 10, 2004, at 14:07:54

Does anyone know of a site where I can find out if a medication raises prolactin levels?

I've been lactating on anti-psychotics. Then I was on tricyclic and it happened again. I would like to know before my doc has me try a new med if it will raise my prolactin levels or not because if it does I will lactate. I've lactated on all the atypical anti-psychotics and many of the older ones. I lactated on Effexor and then on a trycyclic.

Thanks.

Maxime

Maybe you have elevated prolactin to begin with. If you absolutely must take medication with your condition, perhaps you can offset it with drugs like Mirapex or cabergoline. I'm not sure which of the pro-dopaminergic drugs are considered first-line, but I think bromocriptine has gone out of favor.

I just had my levels tested and they are normal.

Would something like Mirapex or carbergoline be OK to take with Parnate (MAOI)?

They should be. I was once on a combination of Parnate and bromocriptine without any problems. I couldn't find any contraindication for either drug in their respective monographs. You can double check at http://www.rxlist.com

Good luck. Let me know what you decide.
